Comments about Audio-Technica AT150MLX Dual Moving Magnet Cartridge:

The AT150MLX has the best sound I have ever heard from a MM cartridge. The sound approaches that of MC cartridges at a fraction of the price. I simply love this cartridge, and the higher output results in a lower noise floor. Channel balance is excellent providing the azimuth and VTA alignment are correct. It is also resistant to external influences.I give it five stars.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT150MLX Dual Moving Magnet Cartridge:

This is my favorite moving magnet cartridge and I have been through different ones over the years. It approaches the level of sound normally only possible with a moving coil design. The channel separation is superb as well as trackability. I have a manual turntable and using this cartridge makes it difficult to tell when a record side is finished because there is absolutely zero inner groove distortion! I really enjoy the fact that the inner grooves sound just as clear as the outer grooves with the AT150MLX. I also have the AT440MLa and this one bests it with overall smoothness and clarity (though the AT440MLa is really, really good!). This cartridge is worth the money and comes with some nice high quality PCOCC pure copper headshell leads to add to an already great product. If there is any con, it is that the boron cantilever the needle is attached too must be handled carefully. It isn't quite as robust as aluminum, but is very necessary to help achieve the overall smooth and clear sound this cartridge produces. This is my go to cartridge on my main turntable and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT150MLX Dual Moving Magnet Cartridge:

It brought new sound to my old LP's. Very nice sound. Much better than my other cartridges in the same price range. 4 mv output is little to low for my vacuum tube amps, but volume control remedies that problem. Most I like about it is the very natural sound and that is what I bought it for.

Thank you for your inquiry. The AT150MLX is a 1/2 mount cartridge with a weight of 8.3 grams. It's Dynamic Compliance (x 10-6 cm/dyne, 100 Hz): 10.0. Please check the documentation for your tone arm to ensure this will work.

          • Q:

I have an AT150MLX and now that it's discontinued I wonder if the ATN150SA stylus from the new AT150SA cartridge will work with my cartridge. My understanding from various online forums is that the AT150SA cartridge body is electrically different from the AT150MLX body even if they look the same.

If the ATN150SA stylus is not compatible with my AT150MLX, what other styli can I use as a replacement?

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

Styli that will fit the AT150MLx are the ATN150MLX and ATN150SA. Although the ATN150MLx has been recently discontinued, there are currently plenty available for purchase.

The Overhang spec is relative to the turntable used as well. Please include the model number of your turntable in your email, and we'll do what we can to find the correct overhang specification and/or correct alignment protractor to achieve the correct overhang and tangency.

              Thanks!

Would the AT150MLX work well with a Dual 721? Also, is there a shop in the Austin, TX area that stocks this cartridge?
Asked on 4/24/2016 by Jim from TX

            1 answer

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

The Dual 721 takes a 1/2" mounted cartridge weighing between 4.5g - 10g. The AT150MLx weighs 8.5g, so it will work just fine!

          • Q:

What is the compliance of this cartridge? My tonearm's effective mass is 16g. Will this cart work?
Asked on 2/13/2016 by Dave from United States

            1 answer

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

The compliance of the AT150MLX Cartridge is 10 @100 Hz, so it will be around 17.5 @10 Hz. With a 16g effective mass tonearm and a cartridge/fastener weight of about 9g the resonant frequency will be about 8 Hz. So yes, it will work.

Thank you for your inquiry. For this cartridge you would need a low mass tone arm (10 grams or less). Please check your documentation about the tone arm mass for this turntable, although I believe it is 12 grams.
