      Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-CKX9iS SonicFuel™ In-ear Headphones with In-line Mic & Control:

I purchased the ATH-CKX9iS back in January 2014 on the reputation of the M50. Had them for about a week before a static/cracking of the audio began when the jack would move around. Just normal swivel? That later turn into a consistent audio cracking when adjusting the volume the built-in volume control. I did send them in for a warranty replacement and got a second pair with great response. Three weeks into the second pair and now the left the phone?s audio has diminished to a faint sound. Very disappointing? Prior to buying these I had a competitor pair of headphones that provided me 3 great years of awesome sound and reliability. They eventually gave into the many hours of use and abuse of airport travel, exercise and lawn work. These were to be the replacement.

Can?t say that I hate these headphones as the c-tip design, which I was hesitant on initially, works out great for staying in the ear. That was my only complaint to my previous headphones, they were not great for working out or moving around a lot. However, they did provide the most basic and critical feature?sound quality with great noise isolation. The CKX9iS do not do as great of a job of isolating outside noise which is OK when you can turn up the volume to compensate. I will attempt to get a third pair but maybe I will opt to get the 9i vs. the 9iS as I think the issue is with built-in Mic and volume control.

          Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-CKX9iS SonicFuel™ In-ear Headphones with In-line Mic & Control:

Received a pair and was blown away by how clear and true the sound is. I own the over the ear beats by dre and these completely blow them out of the water. I listened to the same song on both headphones and by far the ckx9is won without a doubt. I find myself listening to the songs I have listened to before only to hear new things I haven't before.

Comfortability is good. I had these of for 7 hours straight without and discomfort.

The mic worked perfectly and everyone could hear me fine on the other end.

The seal these headphones deliver is great. I had them on riding in a semi and the seal was good enough that I could listen to my Ipod at 60% and not be bothered by the engine. I would assume then they would be good for usage on a plane.

I use these every day about an hour or so and have had used them over 40 hours. In my experience I noticed a slightly better sound after 4 hours of use. Your experience might differ. I was looking for a pair of headphones at $100 and I couldn't be happier. After listening to these I don't think I would ever buy another brand of headphones as the quality, sound, looks, and basically everything exceeded my expectations.

No, due to the larger 13.5mm driver, the rotating ear tip was not possible on this model.

          • Q:

Are the Sonic Ear Ckx9 sound isolating? Do they block out any outside noise?

I am aware that the earphones are not designed to cancel out jet engine noise while on a plane. However, I am looking for a pair of earphones that will drain out some of the outside noise while walking down a sidewalk along a somewhat busy street. Also do these earphones leak noise to the extent that others around you can hear it?
Asked on 4/23/2014 by Consumer710 from Ohio, USA

            1 answer

            • A:

The ATH-CKX9 headphones are not Active Noise Cancelling headphones. What they will do with regard to noise-cancelling, like many other headphones, is provide passive isolation from outside sound. This means that there is an object between outside sounds and your ear, and that would prevent some of those outside sounds from getting to your ear. Passive noise cancellation is also the result of "covering your ears". Of course, different devices do this to varying degrees. However, for technical purposes, the ATH-CKX9 are NOT noise-cancelling headphones.

All headphones "leak" sound and do so to varying degrees. This could be due to how loud the program material is recorded, how much power your playback device puts out, how loudly you're listening to music, etc. Due to these variables, this isn't something any manufacturer could accurately measure.

Given your description, I believe the ATH-CKX9 will work just fine.

Thanks for your interest in our new SonicFuel CKX9iS! Unfortunately, it's typical for our Canadian distributors to be about 3 to 4 months behind our initial ship date. I would recommend purchasing this online through one of our authorized US dealers at this time. Contact us if you need additional assistance.

how does the ckx9is compare too the ckp500 in terms of use for sports? will there be a water proof version of ckx9is?
            Asked on 8/6/2013 by ninjawarrior

            • A:

              Thank you for your interest!

Both headphones will perform near exactly the same for sports use. The differences are that the CKX9iS have an extended frequency response, and feature an In-line volume and microphone control (for compatible smartphones) to allow the user to control music and answer/hang-up phone calls. However, the CKX9iS are not water resistant, whereas the CKP500 are.

As for future releases, we currently do not have any information apart from what is on our website. Please continue to check www.audio-technica.com for current and upcoming releases.
