  • Overview

The ATH-ANC40BT QuietPoint® wireless in-ear headphones combine Audio-Technica’s proprietary active noise-cancelling technology with Bluetooth® wireless technology to give you greater freedom and listening pleasure in areas of high ambient noise. The wireless headphones reduce that distracting background noise by up to 90% while the 13.5 mm drivers deliver superior sound reproduction. The Bluetooth functionality, coupled with an in-line mic and controls, lets you operate hands-free, wirelessly answering/ending calls, controlling music playback and adjusting volume on Bluetooth enabled devices. The headphones pair with up to eight Bluetooth enabled devices, and can be connected with two of those devices simultaneously, allowing you to shift seamlessly between your phone and tablet, phone and laptop or any other pair of Bluetooth enabled devices. The ATH-ANC40BT headphones also employ aptX® sound-improvement technology, specifically created to yield the best-possible audio performance over Bluetooth transmission.

Engineered to create a comfortable listening environment in areas with high ambient noise, these wireless in-ear headphones feature a miniature microphone in each earpiece that picks up ambient noise (such as traffic, air-handling systems, etc.). Electronics in the QuietPoint control module create a noise-cancelling wave that is 180° out of phase with the ambient noise. This wave acts like a noise eraser: it cancels out the annoying sounds that surround you without diminishing the audio you want to hear. The result: a peaceful enclave to enjoy the music or movies of your choice.

The ATH-ANC40BT wireless headphones feature a convenient neck band design that loops the cable from ear to ear around the back of your neck so you don’t have to deal with any dangling cords. However, the headphones also come with a detachable 1.2 m (3.9') cable with 3.5 mm stereo mini-plug that can be used to create a standard wired connection – helpful in areas where Bluetooth wireless operation is prohibited or for when the power from the internal DC3.7 lithium polymer battery gets low. Also included are silicone eartips (XS/S/M/L), a 1.0 m (3.3') USB charging cable, an airplane adapter, and a protective pouch.

      Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-ANC40BT QuietPoint® Active Noise-Cancelling Wireless In-Ear Headphones:

I have been using Ear Buds and Noise Canceling Headsets for years. These are the first wireless ear buds that I have tried and they are comfortable, light weight and have very good noise canceling. I work in a very noisy environment, on a drilling rig, and I have used these instead of ear plugs with great success (in a safe area for electronics).

            Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-ANC40BT QuietPoint® Active Noise-Cancelling Wireless In-Ear Headphones:

I just took delivery of these today. The headphones have a good quality to them without breaking the bank. The noice cancelling is quite effective, perhaps not as amazing as the top brands, but the headphones remember are also wireless. This is a great unit that combines wireless/nocie cancelling. The headphones stay put around your neck and don't weigh on your ears because the circuitry and battery hold their position around your neck. This also makes it convenient to remove the earbuds from the ears but have the headphones immediately availble under a jacket, for example, when you want them again. They also come with a smart pouch that seperates accessories and the headphones. For a good price, these headphones have been cleverly thought out and deliver a good quality for the price spent. Recommended.

            Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-ANC40BT QuietPoint® Active Noise-Cancelling Wireless In-Ear Headphones:

I had to write a review to offset the somewhat negative reviews on this site. I am somewhat of a headphone geek and my income allows me to purchase headphones that intrigue me or look like they will fill a niche. I currently own about 25 headphones of various types and prices. In this case I was looking for some transporatble BT headphones that I can use at work or while traveling and that are noise cancelling. I own the (non-BT) Bose QC-15 over ear and the QC-20 in-ear noise cancelling headphones. I will say outright that these ATH headphones don't have the superb noise cancelling or isolating ability of either type of Bose. The noise cancelling on these is good for sounds like jet engines, trains, or loud fans. They do not isolate as much as the Bose QC-20s which means you can hear other higher frequency sounds like voices fairly easily. This is not necessarily a bad thing in most scenarios since you may not want to be completely isolated from the world (and it could be dangerous). If you want better isolation and noise cancelling, then the Bose is a better bet. However, in my opinion the sound quality on this headphone set is better than the Bose. It does not have tons of bass but it is clean and tight. The mids are ok and the highs are sparkling. Overall it sounds less processed than the Bose and that is a feat considering that the Bose is not Bluetooth. The Bluetooth itself has worked well on my LG G3 phone and my Nexus 7 tablet, both on the latest Android Marshmallow release. I have it paired to both and it connects to both every time I turn it on without issues (something I can't say about my favorite sounding BT headphones, the On-Ear Phillips Fidelio M2BTs). I can listen to music from the Nexus but if a phone call comes in it stops the music on the nexus and takes the call from the LG. Likewise, all the controls work perfectly with both devices. Overall, for the price you are not going to get anything much better that meets all these features. Yes, it is light and feels a little flimsy, but I have not had quality issue in the two months I have used it. The only thing that concerns me is the thin cables that go to the earbuds. They tend to get tangled up when not in use and there is no good place to place them so I keep the headphones in the pouch that came with them because I don't want to accidentally have the earbuds get tangled up on something and broken when I carry it in my backpack. Finally, I want to commend AT for including a manual that has useful information and does not look like something that was written in Chinese and translated using Google Translate, like many recent manuals that I have seen.

              Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-ANC40BT QuietPoint® Active Noise-Cancelling Wireless In-Ear Headphones:

I bought a with-wire earset from Audiotechnica 3 years ago that was and remains my best experience for an earset. The sound quality has always been amazing and unmatched, durability is impressive, so I had very high expectations for this headset, bought 3 years later.

The unpleasant truth is that the only strong point of the headset is the bluetooth technology it is based on. Once you go wireless, it's hard to go back.. If it wasn't for the audio quality, battery durability and a more

The first disappointment comes from the audio quality, that I could qualify by being at most average (or under). There is no match between what AudioTechnica's with-wire earphones can provide, and what they have decided to stuff into this product.

Disappointment also, the noise canceling system. Here also it is sub-par with what can be found for cheaper from competitors (Especially Bose). Most of the noises still filter through.

The battery longevity is good however, but this upside is completely compensated by the fact that you cannot charge the earset and use it at the same time. Bluetooth turns off while charging.. So you need to either give up charging to use the jack cable provided, or simply use another with-wire earset -which cancels quite a bit the advantage of buying a bluetooth headset-.

                Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-ANC40BT QuietPoint® Active Noise-Cancelling Wireless In-Ear Headphones:

Good points - comfortable and well designed earbud unit, with right length for earphone cabling. Sound is good and Bluetooth pairs fairly easily. However there is no options for noise cancelling frequency range although it works fairly well cancelling background noise on buses and trains.
Not so good is the idea to share the micro-USB port for charging and also the corded connection for audio. It is not possible for customers to buy a cheaper or different length cable to connect the unit to the phone or audio device from any electronic store. It should have a standard connector like the ANC 7 unit. Cable from earbud to the main control loop /battery unit could be a little stronger. Audio Technica could also have included a moulded zip carry case so that the black cable do not easily go AWOL.
