Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M20x Professional Monitor Headphones:

This was my work earphone which I generally use while at the desk, its not heavy on the head but its not that convenient for travelling. The Sound Quality is great for this price and the padding helps to block most of the outside noise. The 47 Ohm impedance requires a good playback device for the crystal clear sound but it generally worked with all the devices I tried. The sound stage is quite wide for a closed back headphone and its clear in its entire range. The frequency response is mostly flat with slight bass emphasis but doesn't overdo it!

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M20x Professional Monitor Headphones:

I use these headphones when walking to work and at the office. At home I have a 6 year-old pair of ATH-M40fs, which still sound amazing.

The listening experience is very pleasurable. I hate "mega bass boost x-treme" coloration in the sound, therefore the ATH-Mxx series has been my go-to headphone for personal use and my main recommendation for aspiring audio enthusiasts.

Any genre of music sounds great with these. I listen to a plethora of musical genres - from extreme metal to folk. Regardless of the genre, any well-mixed/recorded album will sound great.

I have yet to use them in a recording context, but comparing them to my ATH-M40fs, they should fit in just right. Slightly more pronounced low frequencies, but not too much.

At home I use them with an external headphone amp and at work/walking to work, from a computer sound card or my phone jack. It doesn't lack power with regular devices and with my amp it can handle very high volumes while maintaining clarity.

Ergonomically, I wish I had gone for the m40x headphones, since the additional swivel and detachable cable are a value that you don't account for until you see it's value.

Due to the long cable, i have to bunch the cable together when walking. Otherwise, great headphones for a great price.

it is very good to use , but its ear buds are getting heat for long use, bass lovers kindly avoid it , u can get reasonable bass and good mid sounds and awsome high freq sounds other than that it has good design for this price, don't compare with rest of the m-series headsets ,it has also a affordable price ,headbands are made up of some good material. finally it is very cool and mainly for professional monitering purpose first understand that and buy if u have professional use or else u can go for any other audiotechnica models

The Audio-Technica ATH-M20x Headphones are not made with any animal byproducts; the earpads are not leather. The earpads we use are made with a vinyl-based or polyurethane-based material that we refer to as leatherette.

A headphone amp will only be needed if the source is not properly impedance matched for the headphones. Most headphone output connections, such as smartphones, audio headphone outputs, etc will be properly matched.

          • Q:

I received the M20x headphones for Christmas this year. I just opened the package as our weather has turned so nice this week. I planned to go outside walking with my iPod. My question is, why is the cord soooooo long? Its probably over 7 feet. I didn't measure it but it would drag on the sidewalk if I didn't coil it up. Meanwhile, the directions say that coiling and putting it in your pocket could damage wires! As far as I can see, I can't pull this cord out and order a smaller 3' one, correct? Any suggestions ? This is a very poor design for those of us that want to listen to music without tripping and falling. Cindy

Thank you for your inquiry. The ATH-M20x are designed for recording studio use where a long cable is necessary. Even though designed for the studio many folks like to use them for casual listening, although you have the cable to contend with.

Yes the M20x's can be plugged into your phone's headphone input jack using the 3.5mm jack. Keep in mind that if you have a case on your phone you may have to remove the case to plug them in all the way. Since these are technically studio monitoring headphones, the end of the cable is thicker and may not fit through the hole in the case for your phone.
