Q:My grandson has asked for an Audio Technica Solid Bass Over The ear Headphones. He is hoping to get an Ipad or Ipod for Christmas. Is this headphone compatible with products other than Apple? Please let me know.
A:Yes, you may plug the standard 3.5mm connection into any standard 3.5mm headphone connection.
Q:Do the headphones with mics use a CTIA standard or OMTP standard connector?
A:Good question. The ATH-WS55iBK are CTIA. However, the single "i" in the title means that these particular headphones are MFi (made for iphone), which means that they are specific for use with Apple products that feature a CTIA communications jack. The WS55iBK will still work with Android CTIA devices, but will have limited functionality (i.e. the volume control for the WS55iBK will not work on Android devices, and will be at full volume). Any headphone with an "iS" in the title will work with either iPhone CTIA or Android CTIA. This also subsequently means that "iS" headphones will work with PS4. Please note, there is no iS version of the WS55.
Q:Will it work for non-Apple phones?
A:These are designed for Apple products. Some or all functions may or may not work with other phones.
Q:How do these compare to the m50?
A:Thank you for your inquiry. This is hard to answer because headphone preferences are very subjective. Also, they are designed for different uses. The ATH-M50's are designed for studio use, so the frequencies are somewhat flat (not over emphasized). As a recording engineer the ATH-M50's are my favorite headphones. The ATH-W55ibk will have an enhanced low end.
Q:are these available? where cani buy?
A:These are now available at Staples, shopaudiotechnica.com and other authorized online dealers.
A:Thank you for your inquiry. These should be available toward the end of May. You can search the internet for dealers that are selling them.
