    ATH-M50x Professional Monitor Headphones 4.7 5 34 34
I Love Them I made the decision a couple years ago to buy some mid/high end phones to keep at the computer station and have enjoyed every second of listening. They are super comfortable and I'm able to wear them for extended periods without any discomfort and they sound spectacular. I wasn't quite sure what to rate them concerning the durability; all I can say is they still function and look as good as the day they arrived. May 17, 2015
They broke 30 Days After I got them I got the headphones may 22 and the right ear stopped working on june 22 May 5, 2015
Good value for money! I'm an engineer by trade, and have built amplifiers since I was a kid, now with well over 30 years of engineering experience and a lot of knowledge richer I would class this product as a surprisingly good reproducer. The imaging of these headphones is quite amazing, making them an easy listener that doesn't fatigue very quickly. For monitoring they might be a little too forgiving, and the precision of the region below 100hz is not too great. It surprised me some critique on these headphones is that it lacks bass, all I can imagine is you probably run gear not capable of delivering sufficient current, or you've spoiled your reference point of your own ears by always listening to a far too bass pronouncing system. These are 38 ohm impedance headphones, that naturally demand some drive and therefore will sound more different on different equipment than a HD600 for instance, which is a lot higher impedance. It's rather the popular choice of headphone manufacturers of today, to compensate for the mpobile devices lack of output power, making the best out of such poor outputs. It is still an amazing package, they are not only comfortable and light, but the materials also feel very pro and the design is well done. The plug in cable first enters the shell with a fairly thick plastic covered shaft, before turning in to a minijack connector, smart as it won't break too quick and locks in nicely firm. I own electrostatic headphones of Stax and these come really near in terms of the spatial performance, there is a tonne of depth in the reproduction, midrange is very clean and very precise and the high range is clear, but not too sharp. Would definitely recommend them for just nice listening, not so much for monitoring as they are simply not linear enough and not precise enough in the bottom end. April 9, 2015
Lucky to got this! Got this dreamed headphone in SXSW, Austin. Love it as it is. March 24, 2015
ath-m50x best headphones i have owned a lot of headphones from wireless to wired and i must say the ath-m50x are the finest phones i ever seen the audio quaity is second to none they are so clear & crisp sounding. you can ware them for hours they are that comfortable. when i listen to a cd or other audio source i hear things i never heard before. do yourself a favor get these you won't regret it. March 23, 2015
By far my favorite headphones I'm an average consumer. I've had the Logitech UE6000, Beats by Dre solos and studios, Astro A50s, Bose TrueSound, and V-Moda Lp2s and M100s. The ATH-M50x beats them in bang for your buck. Best sound quality, versatility (In both audio and wearing them pretty much anyway you want), and they look really nice in blue/orange. Lastly, the small things AT puts into their produce is amazing. For such a low price, they include a carrying pouch and three different cables, which other competitors never do. March 23, 2015
These headphones sound better than any else I've ever heard Even if you're not an audiophile, buy these. If you can't afford them, then save up. You won't regret it. Listening to music through these is a completely different experience than normal headphones. March 23, 2015
Great set of headphones with just a few flaws I've had the m50x for about a year now and will say I'm very happy with them. Sound quality is warm and very good. It can be a little too bassy for certain types of music and other end you get some sibilants every now and again, but it is a very versatile sound and plays well with most music. My only gripes are comfort related. The ear pads that come standard are just too hot and uncomfortable for extended use. I bought an aftermarket set of velour pads and it is a huge improvement. At this price a set of velour pads should be included. The other gripe is that the top of the headband is flat and is not veh comfortable at the top of the skull. You need to bend these a bit to get them comfortable March 23, 2015

I previously asked a question comparing three different types of headphones - Including the M50x and got a well developed answer. However, I wanted to know if I made a right choice picking the M50x over other headphones for just listening to musing on my mobiled device (Windows 8 Phone)

Well did I pick the right headphones for my commute to college, or did I pick something too subjective towards Studio Recording?

    Answer:
As for impedance isolation and cable it will match mobile device use case. Sound is perfect. The only concern is weight and size. I prefer somethig I can carry in my bag all the time for on the go listening. But if size is ok for you probbaly the best choice.

    Answer:
Hello again RuzhX! You've made a great choice! The M50x is very versatile. They're phenomenal for personal use, not just Studio use.

I personally have a Windows 8 Phone as well and I can assure you that it has no trouble driving the M50x.

My comment to your earlier question was mainly aimed at providing you comparisons between headphones and shed some light on their performance. So it is VERY subjective on my part.

But at the heart of the matter, the incredible performance and price point of these headphones is the big reason why even casual listeners like yourself are picking them up.

It's a real good investment for years to come!

It will endure your travels to school and give you a rich experience as you go on through the semester. It may even make some of your classmates jealous haha!

Take care and good luck with your studies my friend!

    Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. Your question is very subjective, although I can say that most people that buy the ATH-M50's buy them for just your use. More so than studio use.

The last response seems to suggest that one or the other cable has to be purchased from your service department.

    Answer:
Exactly three cables will be provided with your purchase of the ATH-M50x models.

As per the M50x's product feature:

    "Detachable cables (includes 1.2 m - 3.0 m coiled cable, 3.0 m straight cable and 1.2 m straight cable)"

The coiled cable and the long straight cable will allow you to use their screw-on ¬ľ" stereo phone adapter.

The shorter 1.2m straight cable terminates with a 3.5mm male jack so this cable is mainly for portable use.

All 3 cables uses a secured proprietary connector. Meaning no other cable will fit into the socket of the ATH-M50x models. So in the event that any of your cables get damaged, you can order replacement cables directly from Audio-Technica. This is what the previous answer was alluding to.

I was wondering how much db will these headphones isolate noise? Using these in a studio with noise from surrounding offices, sometimes loud so I want to isolate these sounds, as I know this might not completely cut out all of the sound.

    Thanks

    Answer:
The more gain you put on your headphones the less likely you're able to hear noise. These are not noise cancelling headphones but when put over the ears, the suction of the ear cups blocks out some sound from all around.

    Answer:
Unfortunately your question suffers from a fundamental problem where noise reduction can't be given by a single value. Why? Simply because ambient noise bolsters a very wide frequency range.

In other words, if you ask "How much noise reduction will this piece of equipment provide?"

We kindly respond: "At what frequency?"

This is the primary reason why most published values out there are considered bogus. Not to mention it's quite difficult to test.

The ATH-M50x offers good isolation. I've done a few analysis with these headphones and it offers anywhere between 0 and -36dB reduction depending on which frequency you ask for. For example the headphones attenuated ambient noise with variance from 0 dB to -15dB approaching the 1kHz frequency. The M50x then steadily attenuated ambient noise down to -33dB approaching 4kHz. Beyond the 4kHz frequency range the headphones attenuate anywhere between -25dB to -35dB. Not the best isolation out there, but good enough for most environments.

And that's not taking into account of our own crude form of isolation by way of playing sounds in our headphones over the ambient noise LOL

From my own personal account, I can hear some noise while the M50x are silent. However, once I start playing sounds, even I couldn't hear my relatives banging viciously at my locked door 12ft away from my station while my smoke alarm was going off...until I stopped playing my transport stream! (True story! I've learned to keep my door partially open while I'm mixing since then lol)

About the closest experience I can relate to your environment would be in busy food court at a local mall with my laptop. Sure enough there some faint noise during playback but I've had no problems editing audio tracks on-the-go until I ran into some of the quieter passages of the track.

See if you can audition them somewhere at a local authorized store to get your own opinion of them. If isolation is critical in your work, I would definitely take a look at Audio-Technica's line of IEMs like the ATH-IM50 since IEMs offer the best possible noise isolation.

    Take care!
