Before hand just know that this review is coming from someone who's just using the headphones to listen to music during my daily college commute and at home for relaxation so don't take the criticism as a studio editor.
    Anyways:

I received my headphones 48 hours ago and the first impression was that they look a bit too flexible and fragile which is not true, they are pretty durable just the filling on the headband looks like it might fall off eventually lol. Also they do squish my head just a little bit which makes it so I can't use them for over 3-4 hours like I would.

The quality of the sound is pretty awesome, you can feel the bass in a moderate way that it has a bit of a vibration to your ears that feels good and doesn't hurt you, the only downfall I found to the sound was that the vocals are a bit of a background to the music rather than being the focus point. It still sounds amazing but if you want to really listen to lyrics and not focus on the bass/treble etc then you have to focus in.

The flexibility of the headphones is sometimes annoying when I try to put them on because it just turns around by itself and I have to keep fixing them and they look a bit big on my head but that might be because it's my first over the ear headphones.

I also noticed a small thing that everyone who's had these seems to lie about.
    - The sound does leak through the headphones a little, it's manageable but if you play the sound at full volume on a mobile device it will leak to a point where it's almost a low volume speaker.

I love the removable cable and the idea behind it (Wish they release a removable cable with a mic).

Other than the down-sides mentioned I'm pretty satisfied with the M50x I received which I purchased through Amazon, however, I really wish the BL edition had came out with the original black so I wouldn't have to think about whether or not i'll return mines to get the BL.

These headphones are built extremely well. They are comfortable and I love the design. If that weren't enough they sound phenomenal! I love the locking cable design and the extra cables and bag that come with the headphones. If you are thinking about purchasing these just do it. You won't be sorry.

I am confident that I made the best choice and in my opinion these are the best closed cans out there. With that said I have just a couple pieces of feedback.

They do leak a bit of sound which can be a problem when tracking vocals.

The other problem is that I love these things so much that I want to take them with me everywhere! I understand that these are studio headphones but buying two pairs of headphones one for studio and one for personal use isn't very practical for students like me. It seems that a better solution would be a cable with a mic and volume control. The most frustrating part is that the adapter is proprietary which means I can't purchase a 3rd party cable. PLEASE AUDIO-TECHNICA make a cable with volume control and a microphone!!! I would gladly purchase one if you made it!

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Monitor Headphones:

I have always sought out the best possible reproduced (music) sound since hearing the difference between AM radio and FM radio back in late 40's. I've Listened to lots of equipment, read lots of reviews, looked at countless frequency curves, bought lots of equipment over the years. These headphones reproduce sounds probably better than anything I have ever heard - certainly better than any other headphones!

If you're looking for headphones, give M50x's a good listen.

This company has been in the forefront of audio equipment for years - the M50x's show why.

I made the decision a couple years ago to buy some mid/high end phones to keep at the computer station and have enjoyed every second of listening. They are super comfortable and I'm able to wear them for extended periods without any discomfort and they sound spectacular. I wasn't quite sure what to rate them concerning the durability; all I can say is they still function and look as good as the day they arrived.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Monitor Headphones:

I'm an engineer by trade, and have built amplifiers since I was a kid, now with well over 30 years of engineering experience and a lot of knowledge richer I would class this product as a surprisingly good reproducer. The imaging of these headphones is quite amazing, making them an easy listener that doesn't fatigue very quickly. For monitoring they might be a little too forgiving, and the precision of the region below 100hz is not too great. It surprised me some critique on these headphones is that it lacks bass, all I can imagine is you probably run gear not capable of delivering sufficient current, or you've spoiled your reference point of your own ears by always listening to a far too bass pronouncing system.

These are 38 ohm impedance headphones, that naturally demand some drive and therefore will sound more different on different equipment than a HD600 for instance, which is a lot higher impedance. It's rather the popular choice of headphone manufacturers of today, to compensate for the mpobile devices lack of output power, making the best out of such poor outputs.

It is still an amazing package, they are not only comfortable and light, but the materials also feel very pro and the design is well done. The plug in cable first enters the shell with a fairly thick plastic covered shaft, before turning in to a minijack connector, smart as it won't break too quick and locks in nicely firm.

I own electrostatic headphones of Stax and these come really near in terms of the spatial performance, there is a tonne of depth in the reproduction, midrange is very clean and very precise and the high range is clear, but not too sharp.

Would definitely recommend them for just nice listening, not so much for monitoring as they are simply not linear enough and not precise enough in the bottom end.

Purchased these to replace my decade+ old M40fs monitors. I use these as a radio producer, and could not be more satisfied. The sound is pure and clean at any volume. Earpads are thick and soft, providing a good seal from outside noise. The detachable cables ensure no twisted, shorting wires. Nice little bag to keep things secured. I love Audio-Technica products!

I'm an average consumer. I've had the Logitech UE6000, Beats by Dre solos and studios, Astro A50s, Bose TrueSound, and V-Moda Lp2s and M100s. The ATH-M50x beats them in bang for your buck. Best sound quality, versatility (In both audio and wearing them pretty much anyway you want), and they look really nice in blue/orange. Lastly, the small things AT puts into their produce is amazing. For such a low price, they include a carrying pouch and three different cables, which other competitors never do.

Is the detachable cable mechanism suitable for frequent insertion/removal?

So I have attached the longer cable to my computer, and use the shorter cable with phone, I feel that the detachable cable mechanism is a bit fiddly, and isn't a very smooth operating one (for example say simple 3.5mm connectors).

Also, the jack is tiny 2.5mm one, so am wondering if it'll be okay to keep switching the cables of these headphone 3-5 times every day for say 5-10 yrs.
I mean, if the mechanism is designed with keeping that kind of use in mind.

                                                      Thanks.

I recently had my pair of audio ATH-m50x's (among a lot of other things) stolen from me. I have the original box, and I'm wonder which of the stickers/where the serial number is located, both on the box and on the headphones if they are printed somewhere.

                                                      Any help is greatly appreciated!

How to adjust headphone to fit when even with the smallest headband setting the ear cups ride too low on the ears?

RE: ATH-M50X Headphones: I have a small head for a man. Even on the the tightest head band setting the ear cups tend to droop too low on my ears once the headband rests on top of my head. If ear cups are centered on my ears there is a small space between the inner foam liner of the head band and the top of my head; but the weight of the headphone eventually causes it to descend, resulting in the above problem. Do you have any suggestion as to how to improve the fit?

Thank you for your inquiry. That is a tough question. I have seen headband pads that are designed to add additional comfort on the head. They just wrap around the existing headband. Something like that would probably help. I'm not sure who makes one that will fit the ATH-M50x, so you will need to look around on the internet for one.
