Designed for the serious gamer who values the natural sound and feel of open-air headphones, the ATH-PDG1 gaming headset delivers powerful, detailed audio and long-lasting comfort. The large 40 mm drivers with CCAW voice coils are specially tuned to reproduce all the lively sonic detail today’s games have to offer, while the headphones’ lightweight, honeycomb aluminum casing affords a natural, spacious sound and keeps your ears cool even under the most intense gaming fire. And with super soft velour earpads, you’ll stay comfortable no matter how long you play.

The ATH-PDG1 also comes equipped with a flexible, 6" boom microphone for crystal-clear in-game voice communication with other gamers. This mic, with 1.2 m cable and in-line volume and mute control, can be detached and replaced with a 1.2 m smartphone cable, which includes its own mic and portable-device controller. An additional 2.0 m extension cable terminating in two 3.5 mm mini plugs for mic and audio works with either of the 1.2 m cables to provide increased flexibility when gaming on a computer.

The 1.2 m smartphone cable lets you transform this premium gaming headset into any everyday pair of on-the-go headphones, perfect for answering calls and controlling audio and video on smartphones and other portable devices.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-PDG1 Premium Gaming Headset:

I really love these. I also have a pair of the AD700s, but if these are closer I'm just as happy to pick them up. I was a little worried I wouldn't like the straight band (vs the winged type on the AD700s), but it is very comfortable and doesn't give me a pressure headache like I experienced with a previous set I had by Astro, which these triumphantly replaced. They're very light, which also helps.

I have to agree with the previous reviewer that the cups aren't quite deep enough. My ears don't quite touch the plastic inside, but the fabric does rub and apply pressure, which does not happen with the AD700s. That would be the only change I could recommend to this set, but it doesn't bother me enough that I feel I need a break from using them at any point. The pads are removable for washing, which is also great.

I primarily use these to play games with my PS4 (plugged into my Dualshock4), often including party chat. Friends report that I sound great and that my wall unit AC, directly overhead, isn't bothersome in the least. I've also used it with my MacBook Pro for watching media or listening to music. Everything sounds wonderful with these.

I haven't had to yet, but I'm much happier knowing I won't have to buy a whole new set if something happens to the cable - it can just be swapped out for a new one.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-PDG1 Premium Gaming Headset:

After using the ATH-PDG1's for about a year, I've really come to like them. They've got great sound, a great microphone, and are super light and portable. The one problem I have is that after a few hours of use, my ears hurt quite a bit because my ears press right against the plastic in front of the drivers.

I was wondering if these are the same model as the ATH-M50x headsets. I wanted to use the Brainwavz custom ear cushions with these and don't know if I can.

The ATH-PDG1 is not the same as the ATH-M50x headphones.

As the manufacture, we recommend using the stock ear pads but you may do as you please.

So this headset comes with two cables, one for cellphone and one for gaming. My cellphone cable with the inline mic got destroyed and I just wanted to know is there anywhere I can get a replacement? I've tried searching the site and was not able to find one.

I know my turtle Beachs have your own voice also play in your headset so you are not screaming into the mic. So I was wondering if these to that as well because that will be the deciding factor.

No they do not, however since they are open back headphones you are able to hear yourself well even when the volume is cranked.
