So I ended up purchasing these headphones on accident. My puppy chewed the cord off of a pair I previously had, some cheap AKGs I was frustrated with. So I did a lot of research for the best reviewed headphones, affordability and something that would give me a good response and block outside noise, since I am a drummer too.

These ended up being the best headphones ever. They sound amazing and you can actually hear low end well, but not super loud like beats. It's a true flat response and it has actually helped me in producing better sounding music. I actually went back and listened to tons of music when I first got them, because I wanted to hear what a lot of my favorite tracks sounded like on them, haha. So definitely listened to some Noisia and Tipper, and it was awesome. I definitely recommend these to anyone.

They also came with 3 different types of cable (length). So I can use one for my studio, one that I can take anywhere, and a back-up (the shortest one), The cables come off and you can replace them which is great. So, if my dog decides to chew off the cable again.....I can still keep these :)

Very good in audio quality. Top marks for it. Best balanced sound. Great swivel design. At this price tag though I would have preferred good leather and also better hard case container to store my precious headphone. This is the only reason it let me down. The next iteration should bring the Bass switch and some more isolation if possible. DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE in the next iteration.

These pairs look sexy and sound amazing. Chose some old song, you will hear different instrumentals come to life. The song that these really comes out is "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5. A very nice flat sound with a tweak in bass. Mids and High sound phenomenal. There is no distortion when the volume is turned up.

I have had these for over a year now and they sound Amazing! I use them for everyday listening and monitors while playing bass on stage. They work great for both. They are so comfortable and I forget they are even on my head. I would recommend these to anyone. Definitely the best in their price range. PS They are super stylish and look incredible with the Blue and Tan. I get a lot of people telling me how good they look. I have the M50 coiled cable ones and they were so good that I bought these and gave the other ones to my friend just so I could have the removable cable. I couldn't be happier with them.

I researched many pairs of headphones before I bought these. What I found was unanimous praise for the the M50s, regardless of price. I love knowing that I am hearing exactly what the artist intended, along being rewarded for choosing well recorded music played through quality gear. These seem to do it all, at a great price. Highly recommended!

This is a great product and I'm glad that I bought it. It was a tough choice to buy but it was worth it. The $ is a little high for the quality but not much. The cables have held up of the constant switches and rolling. The arch pinches a little bit at first but then it relaxes and fits beautiful.( Take that with a grain of salt, I have a large head my friends don?t get problem as much or at all). The design is great but I've noticed the leather cracking slightly in places. The ability to fold them and pack them is great and works beautifully. The ATH-MX50 has a great range of both trebles and bass. The base is rich and solid without the treble falling off or being drowned out. The treble is excellent quality and wont crack or falter like the other headset I had. (Sennheiser) Over all it is a great piece of gear and would recommend this product to anyone looking for a beautiful mix of style and performance.

                                Cable Jack Size on Headphone

None of the specification info on any of the models M50X states the cord jack size on the headphones. Is the headphone jack size 3.5 mm?
You should provide this information and the jack sizes of the cables provided.

additional cord with a built-in mic

first off. i just would like to say that i love the M50x series headphone. i think the people behind the project did an amazing job in the headphone overall.

but i think its missing a feature for those people that like to travel with this headphone.
the lack of a built-in mic. (for when taking phone calls)

i think if you guys would offer an additional cord with a built-in mic that we can purchase would add more to this headphone series. this should be an easy solution because the M50x already has a detachable cord. i love that you guys added 3 different cords in this unit. but its still missing that cord with a built-in mic.

i would be happy enough to purchase that additional built-in mic cord in the future and i know other M50x owners would buy this additional cord to.

this is something that you guys are considering or working on right now????

I'm failing to connect my headphones to my laptop computer with any of the 3 provided cables. I own a Macbook Air with a standard audio input that works fine with other headphones, yet it doesn't work with my M50X's. Why might this be? Are they not compatible?

Thank you for your inquiry. The cable has a standard 3.5 stereo connector. The top portion is 7.77 MM in diameter, so the opening in the case for the jack would have to be at least that size.

No, not one that would require being connected directly to the headphones anyway. A proprietary 2.5mm locking type input connector is used at the headphones. You should be able to use an inline type (stereo female to stereo male extension) cable whith a built-in volume control in conjunction with one of the provided cables however. The output connector on the cables is 3.5mm (with a 1/4" screw-on type adapter provided).

                                Input Power From Different Devices

I just picked up a pair of the ATH-M50XBL, and am loving them on my Iphone 5. I started looking at specs and see the input max is 1500 mW. What is the output of an Iphone 5 and 6, and what are the pros and cons of plugging in to some other output such as a stereo system, computer, mixing board, or other typical outputs used with these headphones? Does relatively low output (Iphone?) result in lesser sound quality, or just lower peak volume? Is a higher output, closer to 1500 mW just more volume? Is there an optimum output device or range for these headphones?

                                • A:

Every device featuring a headphone connector has a different headphone amplifier, which may alter the listening experience with any headphones. Sometimes, this change has to do with volume, sound-quality, and some devices will allow you to EQ the headphone output. It is difficult to say which headphone amplifier will give you the best results, as that is subjected and is ultimately determined by the user (you).

                                  To more-so answer your questions:

"What is the output of an Iphone 5 and 6"
-To find out the output power for the iPhone 5/6, you will have to contact Apple to get that information. But from what I hear, iPhones might have the strongest/loudest headphone signal of any smartphone.

"What are the pros and cons of plugging in to some other output such as a stereo system, computer, mixing board, or other typical outputs used with these headphones?"
                                  - Again, since every device is different, one might perform better, or subjectively sound better to you. Some might have a stronger output, which leads to a louder signal. Some might have additional components to reportedly improve the sound and/or performance. Although all headphone outputs are different, the one that sounds "best" is determined by the listener.

"Does relatively low output (Iphone?) result in lesser sound quality, or just lower peak volume? "
                                  - A low ouput in-and-of-itself won't necessarily result in lower sonic quality, but will not be as loud relative to a stronger/louder headphone output.

"Is a higher output, closer to 1500 mW just more volume?"
                                  - Generally speaking, yes. However, some headphones feature a higher max input power (M50xBL = 1,600mW) for use with high-quality headphone amplifiers, and for better audio headroom.

"Is there an optimum output device or range for these headphone."
                                  - Any high-quality headphone output will give you better performance. But again, whichever sounds best will be determined by the listener.
