121st AES CONVENTION — Pictured are (from left) GRAMMY® award-winning mixer-engineer Rafa Sardina, and GRAMMY-winning Latin pop star Alejandro Sanz, during a recording session for Sanz’s upcoming album. The new album, El Tren de los Momentos, due out November 7 on Warner Records, is co-produced with arranger and multi-instrumentalist Lulo Perez; it includes collaborations with Shakira and Juanes. Sanz has become the best-selling artist in the history of Spanish pop music, and has 200 platinum records, 15 Latin GRAMMY Awards and a GRAMMY Award.
Sardina, whose credits include Stevie Wonder, Luis Miguel and Angie Stone, used Audio-Technica microphones on Sanz’s album, including the AE2500, AE3000 and AT4050 on drums, percussion, guitars and vocals. The album was recorded and mixed between Criteria/Hit Factory in Miami and Sardina’s After Hours Studios in Los Angeles.
Sardina notes: “An amazing discovery was to find a great use for the Audio-Technica AE2500 on cajón, the traditional percussion drum used so prominently in flamenco.”
