INFOCOMM — Audio-Technica, leading provider of microphones and wireless systems to the installed sound market, is conducting educational seminars for key audio systems contractors, consultants and integrators on the subject of radio frequency interference (RFI) issues in the installed sound market. One focus of the seminars is A-T’s innovative UniGuard™ technology, which offers unrivaled RFI protection in the company’s UniPoint® line of miniature condenser microphones.
Presenters in a series of one-on-one visits throughout the U.S., which began in April 2006, are A-T Product Manager Michael Edwards and A-T Engineer Jim Lappin, joined by Jim Brown, a renowned audio consultant and founder of Audio Systems Group, Inc. Brown, who is discussing the fundamentals of RFI, is a Fellow of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), Vice-Chair of the AES Standards Committee Working Group on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and a member of Working Groups for Loudspeakers, Microphones, Acoustic Modeling.
“RFI has become more of an issue for installed audio systems professionals due not only to broader implementation of wired and wireless components but also to the proliferation of wireless communications devices such as Blackberries, cell phones and PDAs,” Edwards explains. “In boardrooms people often place their personal communications devices on conference tables near their microphones, resulting in interference with the audio signal. The purpose of our visits is to present solutions and build a meaningful dialog about how best to deal with this more complicated environment.”
A-T’s UniGuard technology comprises 13 individual new patents offering the best RFI rejection available today in microphones. “UniGuard technology offers a real breakthrough in RFI rejection,” Edwards explains, adding, “It’s an important new technology — the first of its kind in the industry.”
The team has visited Chicago, Houston, Dallas and Austin, with additional trips planned to New York, California and other regions of the country. Companies working in the installed-audio sector may contact their A-T representatives for more information.
