Stow, OH 05-18-2006 Audio-Technica U.S., Inc., a leader in technology for the professional and consumer audio industries, has announced that A-T Digital Engineer Vladan Bajic will present a technical paper titled “Adaptive Filters in Wavelet Transform Domain” (Convention Paper 6716) at 1:40 P.M., Sunday May 21, 2006, Session P12-3 at the 120th AES European Convention in Paris, France. The paper session will be followed with an associated poster presentation in Session P17, Monday, May 22, at 9:00 A.M., in which convention visitors will have the opportunity to discuss the topic with Bajic.

In “Adaptive Filters in Wavelet Transform Domain,” Audio-Technica’s Vladan Bajic presents performance comparisons between two methods of implementing adaptive filtering algorithms for noise reduction, namely the Normalized time domain Least Mean Squares (NLMS) algorithm and the Wavelet transform domain LMS (WLMS). A brief theoretical development of both methods is explained, and then both algorithms are implemented on a real-time Digital Signal Processing (DSP) system used for audio signal processing. Results are presented showing the performance of each algorithm both in time and frequency domains. Noise reduction effects produced by different algorithms are shown across the spectrum, and distorting effects are analyzed. Trade-offs of convergence speed versus added noise are analyzed. Overall results show convergence speed improvement when using WLMS algorithms over the NLMS algorithm.

Vladan Bajic was born in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia in 1974. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Youngstown State University, Youngstown, OH, in 1997, and his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Akron, Akron, OH, in 2005. Bajic previously worked for Dublin Technical Systems in Dublin, OH, on microprocessor-based control systems. In 2001 Bajic joined Audio-Technica U.S., Inc., as Digital Engineer. His research interests include adaptive algorithms, noise canceling and audio DSP processing. Bajic has been involved in microphone and audio DSP systems design, development, measuring and production.
