A-T’s Artist Elite® 5000 Series Wireless System and AT899 Subminiature Lavalier offer a reliable and versatile solution for challenging live performance applications

Las Vegas, NV 03-19-2004 NSCA EXPO — Audio-Technica is displaying the ultimate contractor’s wireless system for theater and event production. Designed for use in high-traffic audio environments, Audio-Technica’s Artist Elite® 5000 Series Wireless System, when combined with its AT899 Subminiature Lavalier and two AEW-T1000 UniPak™ transmitters, provides a proven, critically acclaimed wireless system along with a high-quality, inconspicuous lavalier mic that performs flawlessly night after night. It’s no wonder that
Audio-Technica continues to be the overwhelming choice of today’s most prominent artists, industry professionals, and broadcast events worldwide.

The system starts with the AT899cW Subminiature Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone, which is available in either black or theater beige (AT899cW-TH). Intended for high-quality, unobtrusive operation, the cost effective AT899cW provides maximum intelligibility and measures a mere 5 mm in diameter. The subminiature omni element is enclosed in a rugged, low profile housing with internal construction designed to minimize noise from handling, clothing, costumes, and wind. It includes a complete accessory kit with single and double mounts, clothing clip, viper clip, magnetic clip (black mic only), two open-pore foam windscreens, and two metal mesh element covers to protect the condenser element from moisture, makeup, and other contaminants.

Audio-Technica’s Artist Elite 5000 Series Wireless System offers true diversity frequency-agile operation with IntelliScan™ frequency selection for a choice of two hundred selectable UHF channels. The 5000 Series also features PC-compatible control software, easy setup, and maximum operational flexibility. Specifically applicable for theater and event productions, the AEW-5111 UHF Wireless Dual-UniPak™ Transmitter System includes an AEW-R5200 true diversity frequency-agile dual receiver, and two AEW-T1000 UniPak transmitters. The heart of the system is the AEW-R5200 receiver, which comprises two independent receivers in a single full-rack housing. Two hundred selectable channels are offered in two available UHF bands: 541.500 to 566.375 MHz (TV channels 25-30) and 655.500 to 680.375 MHz (TV channels 44-49), with an operational range in excess of 300 feet. Receivers may be linked to form a complete system in which the built-in IntelliScan capability can automatically determine and set the best available frequencies on all linked receivers, minimizing interference and intermodulation. IntelliScan allows the sound designer to build an entire frequency plan quickly and easily without using traditional frequency charts, books, or even web sites. This becomes extremely important especially if guest talent has brought their own wireless system, or the theater is located in an ever-changing, high-traffic audio environment. An AC pass-through system allows multiple receivers to be powered using only one outlet. Receivers also include Ethernet ports, enabling monitoring of system parameters via the included PC software. By using standard low cost, “off the shelf” Ethernet hardware, cables, and router, the sound designer has the ability for remote control of the entire wireless system from a PC. This provides instant access from the sound booth to assign names to receivers, monitor RF and audio levels, check battery life, and perform frequency scans and walkout tests. Dual-band compander circuitry compresses and expands low- and high-frequency audio signals separately, minimizing artifacts such as pumping and breathing and maximizing audio quality. The digital Tone Lock® squelch system ignores RF that does not carry the wanted signal’s unique signature. Concurrently, a digital ID signal carried by the frequency-modulated audio conveys transmitter information back to the receiver. An external mute switch jack provides the capability to mute the system quickly and easily.

To complement Audio-Technica’s Artist Elite 5000 Series and AT899cW, the AEW-T1000 UniPak transmitter offers advanced features such as a recessed dual-impedance 4-pin locking connector, durable metal body, soft-touch controls with sliding cover, an input level that is adjustable in 2 dB increments, and user-selectable high (35 mW) or low (10 mW) RF output. The AEW-T1000 UniPak transmitter operates on two 1.5V AA alkaline batteries with a life of approximately 8 hours (with the RF switch in the high position) to 10 hours (with the RF switch in the low position), depending on battery type/use pattern. Measuring 2.60" (66 mm) W x 3.43" (87 mm) H x 0.94" (24 mm), the AEW-T1000 has a net weight (without batteries) of 4.4 oz. (125 g). The system is compatible with the entire line of Audio-Technica Wireless Essentials™ accessories.

In addition, Audio-Technica Artist Elite 5000 Series Wireless Systems are available with a choice of two condenser and two dynamic handheld Artist Elite mic/transmitters.

The Audio-Technica AEW-5111 system (AEW-R5200 dual receiver and two AEW-T1000 UniPak transmitters) has an MSRP of $3,119.00. The MSRP for the AT899cW and AT899cW-TH (theater model) microphones is $199.00 each.
