Comments about Audio-Technica AT2020USBi Cardioid Condenser USB Microphone:

This mic is a good mic with exceptional sound quality, lightweight, and versatile in the sense that you can use it with an iphone/ipad. However the proprietary connector on the mic can not be found anywhere else and if by chance it breaks then you can not get any third party connectors anywhere. Audio technica should have included two pairs of connectors in the occasion that one breaks. Also be aware that this mic does not include a port to monitor your audio. Unless you are a die hard apple phone user and need a better mic then I would recommend some of audio technicas other mics.

Could you please tell me what the MIC and COM monitor level mean on the microphone?

          A:

Note, the AT2020USBi does not have a MIC / COM control. This is found on the AT2020USB+.

The headphone connection on the AT2020USB+ allows for direct monitoring from the microphone capsule to reduce latency (MIC side of switch) and will allow you to monitor the audio playback from the computer on the COM side of the switch. You may find a "happy medium" between the two when tracking live.

I bought this microphone back about a year ago from a local music retailer in my area. I've been thoroughly enjoying the product, but recently (within the past month or so) both cables broke at the Micro-HDMI end connecting to the microphone. How can I receive/purchase a replacement?

        Hi there,

I've been borrowing a friends USB 2020 mic to use and by some freak occurrence, while recording, one of the legs snapped (the metal pin snapped and the plastic on the outside broke as the leg snapped outward). Needless to say I'd like to buy another desk stand, but I can't see where I would buy one. Could you please provide me with a link/location to buy one please?

Can this mic work like an omnidirectional mic, where i can have multiple people around the mic talk and it picks up sound 360 degrees or no?? if not do you sell a mic like that if so what kind???
Asked on 3/16/2017 by B-rock from Cleveland OH

        • Staff Reviewer

          A:

No, the AT2020USBi is a cardioid pickup pattern. There are different omnidirectional microphones that you may use but you will want to make certain they can connect to the recording device you want to use. If you are plugging into a smartphone, you will need a proper adapter.

          A:

No. Computers will commonly allow for one external soundcard to be used at a time. The computer recognizes the microphone as an external soundcard.

I'm interested in recording band rehearsals with iPhone 6, is the Lightening cable the necessary thing to make this work? If so does that cable allow other (non phantom-powered) condensers to be used?

          A:

Thank you for your inquiry. The lightning cable makes this microphone work with an iPhone. I don't know about using it with other microphones.

No it does not as the power provided by some iOS devices is not sufficient enough to power an amplifier.

Is a longer lighting cable available for this? I'd like to use this mic for recording band rehearsals with my iphone (audio only). I want keep the phone next to me and place the mic across the room, about 20 feet away. Thank you.

          A:

It is not recommend to use longer cables as USB BUSS power degrades over distance and may limited the performance of the microphone.
