Q:Is this a good mic to use if you're only going to use one mic? If not, which mic would do the trick?
A:The ATM250DE is an excellent microphone choice for many applications. Ultimately, it depends on what scenario you are using this one mic for. Ideally, this mic is best used in drumming scenarios. This mic excels specifically on the kick drum. The condenser element captures a full and warm tone in the resonance of the kick, while the dynamic element captures the power and attack of the beater on the drum head. Mix those two elements together, and you have one beefy sounding kick! Other possible scenarios: use this mic on a tom (rack or floor) or a bass cab. This mic would not be ideal for a situation like recording acoustic guitar and vocals with one mic.
Q:Is the condenser a small, medium or large diaphragm?
