  • Overview

With its lightweight yet feature-rich design, the AT8024 Stereo/Mono Camera-Mount Microphone offers a simple, powerful solution for capturing high-resolution audio for video. Selectable line-cardioid mono and internally matrixed mid-side stereo modes provide the flexibility to focus the recording on a single sound source or to widen the field for outstanding sonic realism. In either mode, the AT8024 delivers audio that is dramatically better than that supplied by the camera’s internal microphone.

The AT8024 camera-mount microphone also comes equipped with a three-position adjustable attenuator (-20 dB, -10 dB, 0 dB) to capture even soft and very loud sound passages without distortion. A switchable low-frequency roll-off reduces pickup of undesired ambient noise, room reverberation and mechanically coupled vibrations. The microphone is powered by a single AA battery for optimal performance with high max SPL, and features an integral camera shoe mount that attaches quickly to DSLRs and shoe-equipped camcorders.

    • Q:

My field recorder (Tascam DR-60DmkII) has "stereo" and "mid-side" recording modes. Since the AT8024 is internally matrix'd, should I use the "stereo" mode on the recorder? Or should I use its mid-side mode? Also, which mic is recorded to which channel? E.g., mono to left channel, sides to right channel? Thanks.

        A:

I am unaware of mid-side mode on the Tascam DR-60. I would verify this information with Tascam on setup of their product. The output of the AT8024 when using the "mid side" stereo recording, I would probably use the stereo setting on the recorder if you wanted a "set it and forget it" setup and the mid-side setting if you want to edit your mid-side in post production. Again, you may confirm this with Tascam.

Yes, Amazon is an Authorized Audio-Technica dealer. However, you should check which dealer is fulfilling the order as sometimes Amazon may work as a middle man between the customer and other dealers. If you purchase through Amazon.com, make certain the order is fulfilled by Amazon or by another authorized Audio-Technica dealer.
