  • Overview

The ATH-ANC40BT QuietPoint® wireless in-ear headphones combine Audio-Technica’s proprietary active noise-cancelling technology with Bluetooth® wireless technology to give you greater freedom and listening pleasure in areas of high ambient noise. The wireless headphones reduce that distracting background noise by up to 90% while the 13.5 mm drivers deliver superior sound reproduction. The Bluetooth functionality, coupled with an in-line mic and controls, lets you operate hands-free, wirelessly answering/ending calls, controlling music playback and adjusting volume on Bluetooth enabled devices. The headphones pair with up to eight Bluetooth enabled devices, and can be connected with two of those devices simultaneously, allowing you to shift seamlessly between your phone and tablet, phone and laptop or any other pair of Bluetooth enabled devices. The ATH-ANC40BT headphones also employ aptX® sound-improvement technology, specifically created to yield the best-possible audio performance over Bluetooth transmission.

Engineered to create a comfortable listening environment in areas with high ambient noise, these wireless in-ear headphones feature a miniature microphone in each earpiece that picks up ambient noise (such as traffic, air-handling systems, etc.). Electronics in the QuietPoint control module create a noise-cancelling wave that is 180° out of phase with the ambient noise. This wave acts like a noise eraser: it cancels out the annoying sounds that surround you without diminishing the audio you want to hear. The result: a peaceful enclave to enjoy the music or movies of your choice.

The ATH-ANC40BT wireless headphones feature a convenient neck band design that loops the cable from ear to ear around the back of your neck so you don’t have to deal with any dangling cords. However, the headphones also come with a detachable 1.2 m (3.9') cable with 3.5 mm stereo mini-plug that can be used to create a standard wired connection – helpful in areas where Bluetooth wireless operation is prohibited or for when the power from the internal DC3.7 lithium polymer battery gets low. Also included are silicone eartips (XS/S/M/L), a 1.0 m (3.3') USB charging cable, an airplane adapter, and a protective pouch.

    Great Headphones and service

    4

I don't usually write reviews but these have been great. Yes the noise cancelling isn't perfect, but I find them great for airplanes where I can sleep with them in my ears, as opposed to the over-ear headphones. The sound is much better than any other ones I tried for the price. They connect every time I turn them on and off, they stop the music when phonecalls come in and start the music again when I hang up. At 14 months the microphone died on me, and I contacted Audiotechnica, I posted them in, and 3 days later I had a new set on my desk at work. How good is that!?

    It sucks

    1

This is a nice design and a great idea. However, the battery span is really short and goes flat even without using it. Everytime when I have used it only for a short while - say 15min - and put it away, the next time I want to use it, the battery is flat. Superannoying as I first have to charge it again which takes quite a long time as well. Also, I find the cord a bit annoying too. I would have liked a Bluetooth without cord. I must not have payed attention when I bought it. Third dissapointment: it comes with a plugin to plug the headphone into your phone. However, it still requires turning the device on. Which means you can't use it with a flat battery! Thats such a backward step! If I use the headphones from my phone, just regular ear phones, I don;t have to turn anything on. But this thing, when used as regular earphones, attached to my phone with a plugin, I still have to turn it on! I would never buy it again and definitely NOT worth the expensive costs!

    I loved my Bluetooth

    5

Loved my Bluetooth ear buds however they didn't survive a coffee spillage, drowned them. These are handy to clip to the collar and keep on all day. Sometimes just i kept one bud in place then put in the other when needed. Very handy item.

    NO!

    1

I bought these because I was hugely impressed with the ATH‑ANC7b and ATH-BT04NC (Japanese import). I was hoping for an improved, updated version. These are not. these seem to effectively eliminate low frequency sounds, but they seem to pass-through and maybe even amplify mid-range sounds like air vent noise and announcements on an airplane. I used these on 1 flight and they have been in a drawer ever since.

    Good headphones

Like that you can use it Wired. I have a Cowon MP3 player that has not got any bluetooth so that's really a positive thing. Maybe a bit expensive but overall a good pair of headphones.

    Left earphone stopped working

    2

Left earphone stopped working just after a year, used probably 30 times solely for air travel purposes. 1 month before that, started to have problem charging the unit fully, as the red charging light will turn off after a few minutes of charging indicating 'full charge' which was obviously not the case. The problem resolved with change of charging cable (which was working perfectly fine for other devices). Expected much solid build and quality. Good noise cancelling and battery life. However big mark off for the let down in quality.

    Spotty performance, Nice noise cancelling

    2

I have used these earbuds for about seven months. Sometimes I have had spotty audio performance-(sometimes failing for no reason, tapping it lightly temporarily fixes it), but, at other times, they have worked flawlessly, so i can't tell what the problem is. The sound is good but does not live up to the m50x-(not a fair comparison, i know). The noise cancelling is good and i really like it. I cannot say that things will be the same you, and to be honest i expect earbuds to break fairly quickly, just not that quickly. Magnus

Good performance, good value and really convenient to use.

    4

By far the best value in-ear, wireless noise cancelling headphones. Good noise cancelling and sound (but not as good as over-ear models). Not as good as Bose, but less than half the price - and more functionality - excellent for air travel, a quarter of the price of high-end Sonys and Sennheisers. The NC slider was a little bit sticky on mine and one of the wires broke - but that was after three years constant usage and lots of travel abuse. I'm about to buy a new one,

I use these all day... fantastic!

    5

I have read reviews about the comfort and fit of the ear buds, but I don't think they are using the correct tip for their ears. I was having issues at first with them falling out, so I bumped up the size of the silicon ear bud tip. Now they fit comfortable without any issues. I seamlessly jump between phone calls, music, and GPS when I drive. Built in audio controls and noise cancelling functions are where it is at. As a graphic designer, I rely on my music to push me through the days sometimes. These are the best delivery of that music I have had in a long time.

I like this product, it works!

    5

I have been using Ear Buds and Noise Canceling Headsets for years. These are the first wireless ear buds that I have tried and they are comfortable, light weight and have very good noise canceling. I work in a very noisy environment, on a drilling rig, and I have used these instead of ear plugs with great success (in a safe area for electronics).

My ATH-ANC40BT headphones connected via bluetooth yesterday. Today the phone doesn't even recognize them in the blue tooth setup. I've restarted the phone, deleted all connections and started over. Yet the headphones will not show up in the paired devices list. The phone is a Pixel 2XL. HELP!

My ATH-ANC40BT headphones won't connect to my new LG G5 phone. It does connect to my old ASUS Zenfone2. The new LG G5 phone connects well to several others bluetooth devices; but not these, my favorite headphones. Can you help me with this bluetooth connection problem?

Hi - The indicator light blinks with blue color all the times during use. Is this expected ? not sure whats the purpose of this blinking !!

    jbr

The flashing blue light indicates the Bluetooth is active and is normal operation.

Hi, I was wondering if you have the frequency response graph for the headphones? I use them to monitor music while I'm recording, mixing, and mastering doing audio pre and post production. Knowing the response of the headphones would be great and really help me while EQing. These headphones are great! I love that you guys included a 3.5mm mini plug, and the omnidirectional condenser was a good choice for a headphone mic. Thanks!

    Michael

The frequency graphs are not commonly distributed with headphones because with any transducer, the environment has to be taken into consideration. For example, when the slightest change is made to a headphone, such as different material of earpads, the sound is changed. That is why most headphones have a stock earpads and any other "optional" earpad is not sold by the manufacturer. Also, frequency graphs for headphones are not visually cohesive to what they sound like. Many frequency curves while sounding flat and giving a true representation of the original source, similar to the ATH-M70x headphones, have a non-flat visual curves. For this reason, a frequency graph is not available.

I can't seem to get the microphone to work when paired to my Galaxy S7 Edge. It doesn't even work when using the usb/audio cord connected. Is this an issue with compatability or should I exchange the headset as these may be defective?

Are my ATH-ANC40BT defective? I wore them on an airplane for the first time and they are very different from my ATH-BT04NC (imported). The lows are eliminated, but the high frequencies come straight though. Is this normal?

    Greg

Thank you for your inquiry. Since we no sell the ATH-BT04NC in the US I cannot speak to their ability. Our Active noise canceling headphones are designed to filter sounds in the low frequency range where most airplane rumble occurs below 200 Hz. Higher frequencies are not blocked by the active noise canceling circuitry.
