TWICE Picks Awards honor some of the most innovative, ground-breaking, disruptive products introduced at CES 2016. TWICE chose the winners based on several criteria including innovation, marketability and wow factor.

The ATH-SR5BT Wireless On-Ear Headphones give you phenomenal Hi-Res Audio with the convenience of Bluetooth® wireless technology operation. Up to eight devices (smartphones, tablets, music players, etc.) can be stored in the memory of the ATH-SR5BT for quick connection to your chosen devices. And adding or replacing devices is made even easier with the headphones' NFC (Near Field Communication) functionality: just touch any NFC-compatible device with Bluetooth wireless technology to the N-Mark on the headphones and the device and headphones are automatically paired and connected.

The ATH-SR5BT on-ear headphones features powerful 45 mm drivers and comes equipped with a mic and volume/control switch built into the left earcup, making it easy to answer calls, adjust volume and handle playback (play, pause, fast-forward, reverse, next/previous track) of music and video on compatible smartphones and other portable devices. A 1.2 m (3.9') smartphone cable with mic and controls is also included to provide a standard wired connection in areas where use of Bluetooth wireless technology is prohibited, for when battery power is low, or when Hi-Res Audio (5 – 40,000 Hz frequency response) is desired.

The internal lithium polymer battery provides 38 hours of continuous use (up to 1000 hours in standby mode) and can be recharged using the included 1.0 m (3.3') USB charging cable.

Available in black (ATH-SR5BTBK) and white (ATH-SR5BTWH).

    About High-Resolution Audio
In Brief: The Move to Hi-Res Audio
While many listeners may believe that high-resolution audio came along with the introduction of the Compact Disc in 1982, constraints on the disc¡¯s storage space always prevented CD audio (standardized at 44.1 kHz/16-bit) from fully and completely reproducing the original recorded sound. The advent and subsequent popularity of MP3s only made this problem more pronounced – the necessary compression of these files causes audio information to be lost, thus greatly reducing the audio quality. But with lossless audio file formats, faster Internet speeds, and storage space increasingly easy to come by (and in ever-smaller packages), the push is on to create audio equipment capable of capturing and reproducing true Hi-Res Audio, generally considered to be 96 kHz/24-bit or better. The Hi-Res Audio logo certifies that a product meets the Hi-Res Audio standards. Per these standards, headphones must have transducer frequency performance to at least 40 kHz. As a producer of these types of audiophile headphones since 1972, Audio-Technica is well-positioned to provide audio solutions that meet the demands of Hi-Res Audio media formats, allowing for the full reproduction of their extended sonic characteristics.

Longevity wear and tear is terrible

I purchased a pair of these about 18 months ago. I understand that replacing parts will need to happen normally and you have the replacement ear pads available. But when the headpiece bit is literally falling apart and leave black bits all through my hair after wearing them and your customer service team say that I can't replace that piece...leaves me quite disappointed. I only use them at work sitting at a desk and do not run or exercise with them. So now I have a couple of hundred dollar pair of headphones that technically work, but I can't use them anymore. I do not recommend these if you are looking for something to last at least a couple of years.

Good at the start, not after five months.

It is good at the start but after some months no sound came out of the left headphone. After a week, the headphones just stopped working.

    Very disappointed:-(

Oh, how very disappointed I am... I thought, Audio-Technica - must be great! Couldn't be more wrong... You cannot connect to more than one device!!! What?! I'm listening to music from my phone whilst on the go and I like to listen to my music from my iPad whilst in the office (saving battery life on the phone). You must first disconnect from your phone and then pair with your other device (my iPad) EVERY SINGLE TIME, back and forth. For this alone (if I'd knew) I wouldn't have purchased these! Sadly, I had no idea abou this. Then, when it comes to sound quality, VERY cheap. There is no distortion, the highs are crisp but there is no bass at all! I listen to all kinds of music, rock, pop, classics, R&B... There is no depth to the music. You cannot hear the bass guitar, the drums, the bassist, the cellist playing the low notes. Yeah. That is my experience, my opinion. I tried several wired and wireless headphones. Those from AT sound the poorest. :-(

    Bratislava, Slovakia

    Volume cap

I loved this headphone but ended up returning it because the volume max could be just a little higher. The bass just a little stronger. That's it. it'd be the best.

    Would recommend for casual use

Overall, these headphones have been great day by day. They look amazing and simplistic with just a touch of class. The sound quality is definitely optimal for quiet conditions, I would say. I have used them across the whole spectrum, from the quiet of my home to noisy cars with road noise and planes with screaming children. Using these throughout my daily life has just made me come to realize that to fully capture what these headphones are meant to execute, they'd be optimal in casual home usage for the amount of output. Every time you put them on, however, you'll probably be blown away with what they can accomplish in such a compact, comfortable and lightweight form. I've worn them for several hours straight and they never have become uncomfortable or fallen off of my head unless you lean against something with them on for a while. A few things to look out for and be aware of before purchasing this product is that for one, the cord that it comes with significantly improves the quality and range of these headphones, if you're buying these simply for the wireless feature and plan to use them outside of your home I would consider looking for a pair with a larger frequency response without the cord plugged in. In addition, for these headphones to accomplish the more simplistic and stylish approach, the cord is very thin and I've found that just over 6 months using them, the cord has ripped around the L-shaped jack (keep aware that I use these headphones every day pretty clumsily and in many indoor/outdoor conditions, most of the time plugging them into my phone). On occasion and with very select songs, the headphones are able to maintain a well managed lows throughout how loud you turn it up, but as you climb with the volume, the highs become a little loud sounding. Finally, for the compactness of this product where bass lacks, sound quality makes up. Overall, I would recommend these for casual home usage.

    Great Product!

These headphone are very comfortable and have great sound on top of that they look amazing. Very nice that (Audio-technica) added the bluetooth feature these headphones can be used for 38 hours+ so they have great battery life. It's easy to pair with phones because it has the NFC feature. Overall i would give it a 4/5 stars.

  • Q & A

It says these headphones "support CODEC aptX". Does that mean they are just aptX or are does it mean they are aptX low latency? I was going to purchase a Bluetooth wireless television adaptor aptX low latency, and they suggested I get headphones that are also aptX low latency for the best sound.

AptX and aptX Low Latency are two different CODECs. The ATH-SR5BT are only aptX.

Hi, I am trying to pair this headset (ATH-SR5BT) via bluetooth to my windows 7 pc. Windows seems to require drivers and after some time searching fails to find them (typical windows 7). Is there a solution to this?

You may contact Audio-Technica Europe for further assistance.

Is it possible to connect next headphones to these? E.g. I am connected via bluetooth to my mobile phone and I would like to use cable from other earphones and put it into audtio-technica. I tried it maybe more than one year before it worked, now it doesn't.

Is this product manufactured in Japan ?

Thank you for your inquiry. They are manufactured in China.

Bluetooth Mic volume is very low. How to improve

Please contact our Audio Solutions Department at (330) 686-2600 ext 5000 or at for assistance with this.

Is this model better or ATH-SR6BT? I am confused to choose one among them. Thanks

Thank you for your inquiry. That is hard to answer. Choose of headphone is very subjective.

Do they need to be charged while using with a wire or just for Bluetooth?

The will work in a wired fashion with out the battery being charged.

Are the ear pads made of real leather or faux leather?

The Audio-Technica ATH-SR5BT Headphones are not made with any animal byproducts; the earpads are not leather. The earpads we use are made with a vinyl-based or polyurethane-based material that we refer to as leatherette. Please note that we no longer use protein leather in any of our products. This was a companywide directive issued by Headquarters Quality Assurance Department in 2010.

Can these headphones pair with your AT-LP60-BT record player?

    Yes they can.

Tried to pair with my Windows 7 Professional PC. Got paired by drivers are not getting installed. The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

Are you not getting a red (charging) or a blue (charging complete) indicator lamp on the headphones when connected to the USB port on your computer? Error Code 28 on a Windows 7 computer indicates there is a problem with the USB driver. This would be separate from a problem with the Bluetooth on the computer. Note that the USB cable is used only for charging the battery in the headphones. There is no data being transferred.
