Let me start off by saying this, these things don't stay on your head. The "wings" don't do a good job supporting the cans on your head which could be due to the way they sit inside the box forced in an upward position. You can use a rubber band or hair tie to kind of hold the wings down so they sit better but it ends up clamping too hard on my ears for me. Now with that said that doesn't make these bad. The sound is amazing. Clear highs and decent mids. Lows aren't skull shaking but it's there enough to give impact. The open-back design make these great for gaming and movie watching. I would still highly recommend these. IF you can find them on sale.

I reviewed similar model open headphones from Audio Technica, and may have not been as fair as should have. I came from the Sony XB series 'phones, which are quite bass heavy, which may have influenced my original review. Headphones are very personal, and all have distinct sound, and need to "auditioned" for some time before passing judgment. Anyway, on to these....
First - comfort. The fit is nice, they are fairly lightweight. The "wings" are a neat feature, but on my head did not apply enough pressure around my ears, and felt as though they slipping down on my jaw. Easily cured with a small elastic cord to add pressure. I kept adjusting the length of the elastic until I had a perfect fit, and comfort for my head / ears. Can use now for hours and hours...
Next, the sound of these headphones. I have come to realize all sound reproducing systems (headphones, speakers, etc.) have their own tonal characteristics, or coloration. These headphones are capable of reproducing sound from below hearing to above hearing. Having said that, they are not "bass heavy". The bass is truly very deep, but needs a little push. To that end, using an amp, or some EQ will make these headphones light up.
These have an "in the middle" soundstage, as though you were on stage with performers - whereas my Beyerdynamic seem to be a bit more "open soundstage" - as though you were in audience.
Overall, for the price, a very nice sounding set of cans that do justice to your listening.

I bought them after watching many reviews.
These open headphones are supposed to be fantastic for female vocals.
Since i've started using them i found out they are able to play very well the rest of hte music i have, i play everything but hard rock and metal.
in Trance and bassy tracks the headhpones sound great, but simply because the sound quality is fantastic and rich, not because of hte bass, which is there, but minimal(don't buy them if you're looking for bass), i've grown to really like that kind of natural rich and clear sound sound. as my ears don't tire from that and having a more "pure" sound for me is better than beefy bassy sound. so Yes for EDM fans (you trade overall sound for minimal bass)
They are extremely comfortable to wear with their unique design. i don't feel them at all for hours, and i've been using non trash headphones.
Great for gaming or just enjoying good quality music. used them for editing sound as well.
There was a period at hte first month that they did some crackling noise at certain frequency but it disappeared after a month or two, i didn't expect that.
I just bought the a1000z because of how i'm happy with these for my workplace.
Highly recommend it for home use or for office use if you don't have people around you (as they leak sound)
everything more indepth you can search youtube for similar more indepth reviews (so i found, after i bought and used them).
A gem of a headphone.

I love these headphones!!!!! I'm really into music! I'm 41 and have been in love with music since I could understand what it was. I use the Fiio Mont Blanc amp. But, they aren't necessarily needed with these outstanding headphones! I'd heard that Audio Technica headphones were a cut above the usual suspects like Sony, Seinheiser, And the like. I pulled the trigger and got the 50x. They were really good. But then I wanted a really nice pair for home use. I saw some intriguing videos referencing the Ath AD900x headphones and every video basically said the same thing. They all said they were outstanding! I got a very good deal on eBay and listened! Let me just say, you have NEVER heard your favorite music like this before! Also, as I'm writing this review I'm listening with them now! I want to try the closed back 900x too.

Plastic or aluminum? If i add a headphone amp will it boost the bass?
Ralph
Thank you for your inquiry. These have a lightweight honeycomb aluminum casing. As for bass, it would depend upon the capability of the headphone amp.
