As a teen myself, I was wanting a versatile multi-purpose headset, primarily for listening to music and gaming at home. I have found that this headphone exceeds my expectations at these tasks. As far as the physical aspect and aesthetics of this product, it is very durable with silver accents lining the exterior and the Audio Technica logo engraved on the side. They are a bit bulky and large, but the comfort compensates for any size concerns. As far as sound quality, these headphones have shimmery highs accompanied by an excellent bass response that is punchy yet not overpowering over the mids and highs. Even though these headphones are intended for monitor and studio use, they don't have a completely neutral sound with a slight emphasis on the lows and highs. I personally like this choice but I feel it is worth mentioning because they are not for people who want a completely flat sound. This aspect of the m50xs accompanies for the sound signature of modern music that naturally has this emphasis, making me like it even more. I was a bit leery about purchasing these since I wanted a portable headset, but the m50xs work well as portable headphones with a designated mobile cable, along with a carrying case and a very flexible design. Overall the Ath-M50x is a headset for those who do not want to buy Beats, Skullcandy and all of the other name brand headphones that make up the portable audio market today, but want an all purpose headphone for use at home or on the go. I would recommend these in a heartbeat over any other headphone I have tested previously.

Immediately after getting them, I found I couldn't wear them for more than an hour before my ears started hurting. The pads were nowhere near thick enough. But... they did sound incredible. I took a foot long strip of toilet paper and twisted it into a rope, then I crammed it under the pads all the way around... problem solved. Flash forward two years, I'm running them through a focusrite USB interface, and I realize the sound is INFINITELY better with a good headphone amp... don't think Your cell phone can truly power these things.
I dearly love these headphones, but after 2 years the plastic layer on the earpads and headpad are crumbling away from their backer. Audio Technica has been making these phones for years, and they haven't figured out that these parts wear out faster than the rest of the unit? My next set of phones will be from a company that offers replacements. These phones have years of life left on them, maybe even a decade, but if I can't replace the headpad without desperately searching online for ANYTHING that might even remotely fit, then I'm just going to find phones with support from a better company.

Wery bad cords. Two of it died in a year. I've bought another one and it's about to die too. After some time I've noticed phase issues during listening. If I touch 3.5 plug everithing goes to normal. After a while sound ruins and nothing helps. It repeated for three times with different cords.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Monitor Headphones:
I rarely write reviews, and never give anything 5 stars, but these honestly deserve it. By far and without question, these are the best cost/quality headphones you can possibly buy. However, even were they priced at $250 or more like some less deserving headphones are, they'd still be worth it.
I'm a bassist and use them when practicing or listening solo, but my main purpose in getting them was to use when playing live, and they have not disappointed at all.
They are very comfortable and solid, and they actually fit on my big head which is a problem I've had with other headphones. It's also loaded with lots of cool little features.
In terms of sound, they are very well balanced and have a solid, but not overpowering bass, and the highs come through very nice. I can hear very clearly and comfortably all the other musicians.
Also if you didn't know, Snarky Puppy uses these same headphones, and anything good enough for them is good enough for me.

Hands down an amazing set of headphones, no doubt about it. Compared them to a huge rack of competitors at my local music store. By far the best sound for me... bass is there and it's tight but not overwhelming, mid is warm and clean, highs break through nicely. They fit tight but the seal makes the bass compression punchy. Kickdrums sound and feel great. Uncomfortable is a bit of an overstatement- they are tight tho.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Monitor Headphones:
I bought a pair of these about six years ago. They were the first mid-range Headphones I ever purchased. Despite my love of music and the amount of time I spend in the studio recording, mixing, etc. I've never had the kind of budget to buy those really expensive, studio cans, like Sennheiser's. So I gave a bunch of different brands a demo at the local music shop and the Audio-Technica's were far and away the most impressive I heard. I've used them for every DJ gig, for mixing and for personal listening. Unfortunately I used them so much, I think i wore them out after six years. So I bought a new pair a few months back, and have decided to dedicate them only to studio use.

I have 6 pairs of headphones. These headphones I use the most by far. For my mobile phone, to mixing my recordings, for my video editing etc. If I had to keep just one pair, these would be the ones!

If you're looking for quality earphones that are comfortable to wear and can handle a daily commute, you've found them. I use them mostly at work with ambient sound to drown out office chatter for extended lengths of time with zero discomfort. When I do play music it's usually soundboard quality live recordings and the sound is full and crisp, hearing every instrument perfectly. I am certainly no audiophile but I do understand quality sound and these earphones deliver that, no doubt about it.

Comments about Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Monitor Headphones:
They sound awesome, but they don't fit over your ear well. The cushion is too small for an adult ear. There's also a hard seam on the inside of the cushion that digs into the top of your ear. Uncomfortable to wear for more than 15-20 minutes.

It starts to hurt your ears after long periods of use, but audio quality is much better than other headphones in this price range. Way better than any pear of Beats.
