    To tight and way ugly.

So I receive these headphones in the mail after reading they are the best budget headphones available. I wait a while then open them to find the front of the instructions written in Chinese, this is the first time i have ever seen the front page of instructions in Chinese with a little English on the inside. My thoughts of having the best US headphones were soon dampened by the thoughts of some 13 year old Chinese kid sitting in a internet booth wearing them. But upon further investigation it turns out they were made in Taiwan who are not exactly friends with China. Putting the place of origin aside I move on to the overall design that i didn't really like the look of before i bought them only to discover they are just as ugly. It looks like they were designed by a geeky scientist not a musician or a trendsetter. And the name, we all know everything sounds better with an "a" on the end from pasta to coke a cola, but Audiotechnica just sounds like a name of some cheap batteries or junk from the $3 shop trying to sound classy. As for the fit they are way to tight this is demonstrated by the way they twist into a pretzel when not in use. They are way to tight even with nothing in between them with the plastic ends flopping around all over the place. The cord is longish but not long enough to sit on the couch while watching tv. The sound is important but probably not as important as the looks if you are a DJ and I'm sure these geeky looking things wont be a hit with the ladies. I would hate to DJ wearing these as you cant just put them on with one hand and the flipping end is pointless as you just have hard plastic against your ear. Did anyone even consider that when making these overpriced Micky mouse ears oh and don't forget the exposed wires to get your fingers all caught up in. They are like suction cups on the ears no wonder there is no sound escaping they are so tight. So why say they are good, it's like trying to pretend you like your bad Christmas presents.

    Hurts my ears!

Good sound quality, I have to wear headphones all day at work but these are not comfortable. Really hurts my ears!

    From Grado to Audio-Technica

Do NOT waste your money on can spend less that $100 and put Headies over your ears an listen to music the way is should sound..If you want to bass compress the eardrum until it hurts...then spend $400....I have been listening to music through headphones since I was a teenager....outside of Grado'....I have waste so much time buying returning headphones...I gave up Then I found Audio-Technica. As an amatrue musician, I never paid much attention to the sound 'guy'...until 4 yrs ago, when I was asked if I may be interested in learning the soundboard at out Church...I jumped at the chance. Fours yrs on...I've become the worship groups sound engineer. running a Allen & Heath 3300...what i have learned .... Soundman needs head phones, and they need quality headphone. weather you're in the sound engineering field or just love being as close to the music as you can.... A-T Headphones have impressed . since i've received M30x. The past few days I put these headies to the; from Classical to indie / Math music....even listened to a podcast..... AWESOME. I know a day will come when I for now...if your and audiofile.... unless you're just a Brand Wh** beats....if you want a true music Audio-Technica

    best value !!!

    wow best price value !!

Great for the studio (when they work)

I've had three pairs of these already and I keep buying them because they're exactly what I like to use in the studio. However, they tend to randomly stop working. Perhaps it's because the cord is so long that I roll over it with my chair without noticing? Or is it retaining moisture from sweaty recording sessions? Whatever the case may be, they sound wonderful for the price.

Great if you know what you are looking for.

I bought these used - like new. They are my first "pro" headphones. The seller had used them for a few days and then bought some wireless phones. I needed them for use with my retro Hi-Fi center and my media PC. I had used many headphones that were not too bad but none of them quite "ticked all the boxes" like these did. I will be the first one here to say that for my needs of sometimes walking into the other room, the cord could have been even longer. The sound is kind of soft, but clear and balanced; my impression is that the treble and lows controls on my system do not affect it as much as in case of the others I own. The look like they are built to last and I certainly will use them a lot.

    Incredible value for money

After using these pair of headphones for 2 years i´ve realized the incredible quality of the audio it offers for the money, when my friends tried them they couldn't believe what i paid for these headphones, they said things like "no way, i thought this thing was around 200 bucks", over the years these headphones have showed the usual wear and tear of daily use, but considering how much i use them the build quality is great, one thing that bothers me is the design, it isn´t ugly butt they definetly could have done something much better

    Phenominal Headphones

I used the M30x for awhile when I was working in a studio. They are great for beginners who are just getting into the music business.

    Solid budget studio headphones

I have had these headphones for about 3 years now. I use them with my PC for about 6 hours each day. The sound is clear, with no distortion even at uncomfortably high volume. The included screw-on 1/4 inch adaptor is great for working with some of my audio equipment. The 3 metre cable is great for home use, but unwieldy on-the-go. Unfortunately at this price point the cable is integrated into the headphone, so no swapping for a shorter cable. I have noticed that the leatherette material on the inside of the headband and ear-pads has begun to break down, showing some large cracks. This however doesn't make them uncomfortable to wear. The adjusting mechanism is perhaps a little bit too lose, but isn't a major issue. Overall, an imperfect, but great value pair of headphones.

Headphones are so NOISY, the Mic hears the plastic crunch

Stay away if you need to wear these for recording

I ordered a set of the M 30x and was wondering if I can purchase a shorter power cable for them. I see there is one for the M series but will it work with the M30x????

Hi. I was just wondering if these headphones are compatible with samsung phones, tablets as well as hp laptop?

You may plug the ATH-M30x headphones into any standard 3.5mm headphone connection.

Are these headphones on ear or over ear headphones???

    Logan Vanderhoof

The ATH-M30x are considered Over Ear but as each persons body is different, I recommend trying them out for yourself and see if they will best suit your needs.

I am planning to buy a pair of headphones for watching movies and casual listening, (mostly EDM), which one would you recommend ATH-AVC500/400 or ATH-M30x? Do any of them need a headphone amp for listening on mp3 or smartphone player?
