Great Turntable, but loses as star for built in RCA cable.

    4

I did a ton of research before choosing this turntable. It was between this and the ATP-LP1240. For the difference in price and for use at home, the AT-LP120 does everything I want. Set up is not difficult, but if you've never set up a tone arm with a counter weight you should watch the videos. It make a big difference getting the counter weight and anti-skate right. The settings for this are actually on the cardboard insert on the plate when you assemble the turntable, not in manual, so keep your eyes opened for that. The RCA cable is built in, instead of having normal RCA jacks. This means you have to use the cable that is pre-attached, which is not a big deal, unless you need a longer cable in which case you'll need double female adapters and an other cable. The bigger issue is that if anything thing happens to the cable you can't just swap it out with a new one. You will actually have to bring it in for repair. This is the issue that made the decision to buy this turntable or not more difficult. This was a really poor design decision for Audio-Technica. I cannot understand why anyone would thing this is a good idea.

    Antiskate issue

    5

I had had this unit for about 2 years now and only just replaced the original stylus with a 2mm Red Ortofon and noticed the sound quality jump up by 100% Only real issue that I have is the antiskate.

    Antiskate issue on laptop.

I have had this product for about 2 years now and recently changed the original stylus with a 2mm ortofon cart and the sound is so much better. The original Manufacture one was a little muffled but clear as day. Would love to buy this unit again ONLY if they were to fix the antiskate..

    Excellent High-end Entry Level Turntable

    5

Product performs precisely as advertised. Set-up could not be easier. I did three things to optimize performance; the resulting sound produced is distantly and noticeably improved. 1.) replaced the factory supplied cartridge with an AT VM540 ML/H cartridge; 2.) replaced the factory supplied platter mat with a cork mat; 3.) replaced the factory supplied tone arm counter-weight with a heavier AT counter-weight. I also placed this turn table on to a Auralex ISO-Tone turn-table isolation platform. I am thoroughly pleased with the performance (and appearance) of this component and would recommend it to anyone looking for a high-end entry level turntable.

I would buy this product again

I've read about problems related anti-skate and wobbling but I found nether to be the case. I would have been happy to pay a little more if the Mfg. made the foot pads with some kind a screw type to make leveling easier.

    Great Basic Turntable

    5

I plugged this turntable in though a basic Sony stereo receiver and cheap old speakers from an early 2000s 5 disc cd changer. It works very well. The sound is loud and clear and crisp. The turntable itself has had no issues, U've had it for over a year. It is easy to use, has never had any hiccups, haven't had to replace the needle at all yet but it does come with an extra. I decided to not buy the bluetooth one because of poor reviews. I bought a $10 portable bluetooth car receiver to plug into this turntable and am able to play music from my phone through the system. For my personal use, this suits me fine. Hopefully this helps someone out!

AT-LP120-usb Love this turn table, takes me back to when music was real and not computer generated. The only issue I have is the platter wobbles a bit but does not affect the sound quality yet.... eventually will order a new platter and rule out the motor spindle ...great purchase

    Belt missing

My girlfriend bought his for me as my first record player and the belt is missing so I can't even use it. I felt stupid for couple hours trying to figure out why it wasn't working. Had to watch a YouTube video to figure out I don't even have the belt.

2.5 years and still playing my vinyl!!!!!!!!

    5

I have had my LP60 for 2.5 years and it still works. I play my albums daily for at least an hour, longer on weekends and it still works as if it was new and out of the box. I have a pair of Bose computer speakers hooked up and the music sounds excellent. I have been neglect in not replacing the stylus (still plays great) and that's why I am on the Audio-technica site...to order a replacement stylus. When this record player finally quits on me I will replace it with another LP60. I also love that the tone arm automatically returns at the end of the album!!!!

  • Q & A

Hi, I have just purchased a Audio Technica AT-LP120USB. Can I connect it to my mini HiFi via the UBS cable? Or do I need to get separate active speakers? If so, which one do you recommend at a reasonable price? Thank you.

Hi, can you please tell me the overhang adjustment for the AT95E cartridge. As the instructions for the ATLP120 say refer to cartridge specs, and cartridge instructions say refer to turntable, Headshell specs.

To follow up on my previous question, which Audio-Technica cartridges are capable of reverse play? Is it only the listed as "DJ Cartridge" or are there any others that are capable of reverse play?

I got this turntable for Christmas, and I'm very happy with it so far. I'm curious about the reverse play feature. From what I've seen, the stock AT-95E cartridge should not be used for reverse playing. I would like to be able to play with this feature (not excessively, and not scratching, just occasionally for fun) but of course I don't want to damage the stylus or cartridge. Is the AT-95E suitable for occasional, infrequent reverse play, or should I get a different cartridge to play records in reverse?

    Drizz

It is not recommended as the design of the AT95E cartridge magnets should not be used for reverse play. For reverse play, it is recommended to use a stylus and cartridge that is designed for scratching and back cuing.

I'm getting a ground loop high frequency buzz intermittently. The buzz goes away if I ground the arm by touching it or the RCA ports on the back of the speakers. I'm operating it (and have changed the relevant switch) at 230v as I'm in Myanmar. Is this a problem with the internal pre amp? Is there a way of grounding the arm without unscrewing the back of the whole machine?

Can it connect to speakers via bluetooth or does it have to be wired?

    SAC

The AT-LP120-USB does not have an internal Bluetooth transmitter and may be connected directly to powered speakers via the included cable.

    Brent

Can the USB be connected to a my computers USB 3.1 port or does it require a USB 2.0 port? Thanks!

    Professor Mudgrip

You may connect the turntable to a 3.1 USB port.

I just bought an AT-LP 120-USB and Analog turntable. Is the recording feature compatible with windows 10? I've read references to possibly needing a different driver/downloading a different version of Audacity. If this is not possible, I'll have to use the windows 7 laptop instead of the desktop and the resulting sound quality may not be as good.

You may use any software that allows an input signal from a USB digital input. Many people use the freeware Audacity which you may find helpful information on below. (Note, we do not manufacture software so we cannot assist in troubleshooting software issues.) Additionally, people often use the software Spin-It-Again as it is designed for this application specifically and offer troubleshooting assistance when needed. https://blog.audio-technica.com/audio-solutions-question-of-the-week-how-do-i-record-music-from-my-a-t-usb-turntable-on-to-my-computer/

Do I need to purchase an additional amp to run the speakers that I bought, namely the MB42x speakers?

    Anthony

The speakers listed do not appear to be powered speakers and would require power from a stereo receiver or a power amplifier. The turntable has an RIAA preamp inside and you may find helpful information on that here: https://blog.audio-technica.com/audio-solutions-question-of-the-week-what-does-the-phonoline-switch-mean-on-audio-technica-turntables/
