  • Overview

The ATM230 hypercardioid instrument microphone brings a compact drum model to Audio-Technicaís popular Artist Series line. The micís proprietary capsule is designed to excel in high SPL applications, delivering full, well-rounded audio with an exceptional low-end. The hypercardioid polar pattern keeps the focus on the sound source, directionality that is aided by the micís low-profile design, which allows it to be placed in a wide variety of setups. All this makes the ATM230 ideally suited for miking toms, snare and other percussion instruments.

The ATM230 features rugged metal construction that stands up to the rigors of live and studio applications, and comes with an AT8665 drum mount and a protective pouch.

    Also available as a 3-Pack (ATM230PK).

    Perfect Tom Microphone.

I've been using Sennheiser 421's and CAD M179's on my toms for years and I thought I'd give the ATM230 a try. The ATM230 has a finished sound and it sits in a drum mix better than anything I've used in the studio. The ATM230 has really nice isolation due to its hyper-cardioid design unlike the 421 has bleed that sounds like trashcan lids. I ended up purchasing a 3-pack so now I have 4 of them. I couldn't be happier. Not only am I an engineer, I am also a drum builder and to hear the toms with these mics makes it all worth it.

Hi. For the ATM230, is it possible to power it up by connecting it to a DSLR (canon 7D) using a XLR to headphone jack cable? If yes, are there recommended XLR to headphone jack cable for the ATM230? Thank you!

The ATM230, being a dynamic microphone, does not require any power and may be connected to a MIC level input. Please contact our Audio Solutions Department at (330) 686-2600 ext 5000 or at for additional assistance with this.
