  • Overview

Audio-Technica’s AT897 is designed for field audio acquisition in film/TV/video production, professional recording, wildlife recording and broadcast applications. It mounts conveniently on a DV camcorder without adding noticeable heft, and remains out of the frame even with compact digital cameras. This high-performance short shotgun offers outstanding long-distance audio pickup due to narrow acceptance angle of line + gradient design. It also features smooth, natural-sounding on-axis audio quality and excellent off-axis rejection of sound arriving from the sides and rear of mic.

I think AT microphones are the best value on the market !

    4

Good sound nice natural tone ...I've been very happy with the mic ...The only improvement I can think of is I wish the output was a little hotter and that's only because of my preamp in my recorder, but for money it "AT897" was best mic out there !

Is this mic considered a shotgun mic?

    Robert

    Yes it is.

    Brent

I see this mic listed as AT897 and AT897 Low-2. Are there two mics or are these the same as the "Low-2" or should that be "Low-Z", the low end roll off switch?

    Perry

Thank you for your inquiry. I have never heard of the AT897 Low-2.

    Rick

I'm currently using the AT897 with a Tascam DR-60D MK II recorder on Mic level. Can I switch to Line level without worries or will this function harm my equipment? Thanks.

    Gabriel

Thanks for your inquiry. It will not hurt your equipment but you may get soft signals from the microphone.

What is the best pistol grip to work with AT897? thanks.

    J

You may use any third party pistol grip with the AT897 microphone.

can i send this in for repair? The battery capsule base has become detached from the head.

Curious about the battery and its interactions with phantom power. What happens if the battery is installed AND phantom power is applied? Would that drain the battery? Would the sound quality be affected?

    Bryce

If phantom power is present, the battery will not be used. It is good practice to remove the battery when not in use.

I want to use this with my Sony IC recorder (ICD-PX312). I have purchased an adapter. No sound is recorded. I can record with my a lesser quality microphone. Any suggestions?

I am looking for a mic to use when recording my daughter's piano recital. Is this a good mic to use with my DSLR for that application? I will probably be around 25ft and the location usually is a small hall with a stage.
