  • Overview

The ATM250DE has been discontinued. Please see the ATM250 Hypercardioid Dynamic Instrument Microphone or the AE2500 Dual-element Cardioid Instrument Microphone

The ATM250DE dual-element instrument microphone features cardioid condenser and hypercardioid dynamic capsules combined in a single housing. Audio-Technica’s innovative use of two polar patterns is ideal for kick drum: the hypercardioid dynamic element focuses tightly on the aggressive attack of the beater, while the condenser captures the round tonalities of the shell. The elements are positioned in a perfect phase relationship, something practically impossible to achieve with two separate microphones. Includes a professional isolation clamp to provide secure mounting, versatile positioning and effective dampening of unwanted mechanical noise.

Is this a good mic to use if you're only going to use one mic? If not, which mic would do the trick?

    JD

The ATM250DE is an excellent microphone choice for many applications. Ultimately, it depends on what scenario you are using this one mic for. Ideally, this mic is best used in drumming scenarios. This mic excels specifically on the kick drum. The condenser element captures a full and warm tone in the resonance of the kick, while the dynamic element captures the power and attack of the beater on the drum head. Mix those two elements together, and you have one beefy sounding kick! Other possible scenarios: use this mic on a tom (rack or floor) or a bass cab. This mic would not be ideal for a situation like recording acoustic guitar and vocals with one mic. If you need further assistance picking out the perfect mic for your situation, give Audio-Solutions a call at (330)-686-2600 ext. 5000 . We'd be happy to help!
