    Taking back to shop

I bought this mic, plugged it in and had an afternoon of low-quality, low-level recording issues in Audacity, Ableton Live and then Adobe Audition. A quick lookup on the web revealed that there are a multitude of issues with nearly all USB powered mics since the release of Windows 10. I also note that the mic has been discontinued (without explanation) by audo-technica.

    love this mic

fantastic mic, although all my gaming buddies say it picks up my whole life. so be sure you are ready to adjust the levels in windows while using it XD

Easy to use with superior quality!

Until I began using the AT2020 USB I used basic basic computer microphones for recording voiceover or music. I knew I was missing something so I explored options for better quality products. A fan of Audio-Technica products I consulted with an audio expert and this mic was recommended. I have not been disappointed. From its included mini tripod set up and ease of use on all my USB enabled products, to the exceptional audio quality on all of the various recordings I do, I found this microphone to be everything I had hoped for. In reproducing piano music, singing, and voiceover recordings the AT2020 performs at a very high-level. The highs, the lows, and the mid ranges produce professional studio quality sound with a very sensitive response. It allows me to hear nuances in all areas of my recording needs that do not get picked up with basic recording equipment. I consider this a very high value for the price and recommend it highly.

The mic is easy to use, and great features

The microphone has been great! I purchased around a year ago, and I love it. It worked right out of the box. No hard installs just plug it in and it works! Although recently the cord has started acting up, and I need a new one... :( Other than that It works great!

    Poor choice for Windows 7/Audacity

Mic is extremely fussy with Audacity on a Windows 7 laptop. Mic works with other applications on the computer, but is almost impossible to use on a Windows 7 machine with audacity. Three of us fiddled with it for hours yesterday and eventually got it to work with the software. Couldn't replicate it again today; after several frustrating hours, it still won't work with Audacity. OTOH, I downloaded Audacity onto a desktop machine with XP and it worked flawlessly. The box says the microphone works with Windows 7, but the manual included with the microphone makes no reference to the setup and use of the microphone on a Windows 7 machine. I am very disappointed.

Love the AT2020 USB on a Mac Computer or Windows XP !!!

This microphone WORKS extremely well with any Mac Machine and Windows XP. With following a few simple rules on recording audio the results are excellent! I had problems with the AT2020 USB on a PC with windows 7 professional (device not recognized) but when used on a MAC or a machine with Windows XP it is recognized immediately and works flawlessly.

    Love it

Bought this microphone a few years ago and I love it. Only problem I'm having is that for some reason my codec splits it into two inputs, and the stereo input is considerably louder on the left channel than it is on the right. For Mono recording it's perfect. It has only done this on my Windows Vista system, all other system it works fine. Sound is phenomenal, though the tripod it comes with is cheaply made and will break if the microphone falls.

    Great mic, easy to use

I purchased a used AT2020 USB, to set up a home studio. I record vocals and voice overs, and wanted a quality mic. I am totally impressed with the recordings I've made with this mic! Not only is it easy to set up and use, but the sound quality is excellent. Highly recommended!

    Polished Professional Sound

I see videos everyday on the Internet that are from big name companies that sound like they were recorded from the bottom of a barrel. This microphone gives you clear sound with a minimum of fuss. My main experience has been with voice and it picks up voice very well. Crystal clear results.

    Great mic for podcasts

I use this mic for recording podcasts and voice-overs for software demonstrations. The sound is clear and accurate for the human voice and the built-in USB connection eliminates the need for and external mixer or analog-to-digital converter.

Hi, Is this mic compatible with the USB C port in the Macbook Pros if a converting cable is used? Also is is compatible with high sierra?

You may contact Audio-Technica Europe for further assistance.

Hi there! I purchased the AT2020 in January 2015. Recently, it is suddenly producing much static and where I normally have clean room tone, now requiring more editing. Have you seen this happen before? Is it the cable or time for a new mic?

Hi, The zipper on the pouch is broken and I wanted to know if I could get a replacement pouch. Thanks Liam

Hello, I own an AT2020, I've had it since 2010 and now, with the new mac update (High Sierra), it stopped working. What should I do? I need this microphone for work.

You may contact local Audio-Technica Global Division for further assistance. If located in the US, please contact our Audio Solutions Department at (330) 686-2600 ext 5000 or at for assistance with this.

Does this mic require any downloaded drivers to work? I've had one for a while and have never needed to install any drivers, but I'll be switching to a new PC soon and didn't know if I needed to download anything to get it to install properly.

    Okay Sky

Thank you for your inquiry. The microphone uses the USB audio codec that is part of the operating system. A special driver is not necessary.

I would like to use this with my Canon 80D. Is there an adaptor that will work that goes from the microphone USB to a 3.5 mm diameter plug, which is the mic input on the camera?

    Linda O

Thank you for your inquiry. No there is not.

can this mic be used as a boom in video productions for dialogue?

As a side address microphone, the AT2020USB would not serve your intended application as well as a microphone designed for that application such as a front address condenser stick microphone or a shotgun microphone. Please contact our Audio Solutions Department at (330) 686-2600 ext 5000 or at for assistance with this.

Is there anyway to not use the usb connecter and run it through an audio interface ?

Thanks for your inquiry. Unfortunately there isn't a way to do so. I would recommend you to return the AT2020USB and get the AT2020 which has the regular XLR connector. This way you can connect to an interface.

Couple of days my PC started to decect this Microphone as "USB PnP Sound Device". It was "AT2020 USB +" before. There are no drivers or something I can download. What should I do? I tried plugging-unplugging and deleting it in a device manager

Windows updated the USB CODEC the microphone uses and this is normal.

I recently purchase an AT2020USB, but I find that randomly throughout my recordings the mic stops working. The light remains on and my computer never stops seeing the device as plugged in and available, however the recording software stops picking up audio and the people on the other end of any conversations I may be having (say on SKYPE) can no longer hear me. I am running Windows 10. Any thoughts?
