Answer: The AT2020 (and AT2020USB+) has become a popular choice for many in the content creation community. With the new AT2020USB-X, Audio-Technica wanted to improve on the design and functionality of the previous USB version to create a premium plug-and-play offering that allows users to produce professional-quality audio with ease. In this article we will highlight the new features and improvements of the AT2020USB-X.
The AT2020USB-X has a high-resolution A/D converter that is capable of a 24-bit/96 kHz sampling rate. This allows podcasters, streamers and other creators to record at a higher fidelity than with the previous model to ensure that their audiences are receiving high-quality audio. The USB port on the microphone has also been updated to a USB-C type connection and comes with a USB-A to USB-C adapter to expand the microphone’s compatibility with devices available currently as well as those that will be available in the future.
The AT2020USB-X retains the built-in headphone jack to allow for zero-latency monitoring, as well as the adjustable headphone volume control and monitor mix control to allow the user to finely tune their recording experience. But the microphone also now includes a silent touch-sensitive mute button. This allows the user to mute their microphone quickly and quietly so as not to interrupt the recording. In addition to the mute button, the indicator light on the AT2020USB-X also informs the user when the microphone is muted by switching to a RED light from the BLUE light that shows when the microphone is active.
Lastly, the AT2020USB-X comes with an updated desk stand that has been improved in both quality and stability compared to the previous offering. Instead of a tripod construction, the AT2020USB-X’s stand uses an oval-shaped base that increases the surface area of contact, and it is lined with a rubber bottom to prevent slipping. The microphone also comes with a 3/8"-16 to 5/8"-27 threaded adapter to allow the user to attach the mic to most boom arms and microphone stands.
